Independence
After swimming, packing, breakfast and checking out, we walked over to Independence National Historic Park. We first went into the area around Independence Hall. We didn’t have tickets to go into the hall itself, but we went into one of the other halls where we saw some information about the various documents that had been signed there. I helped Chloe to remember the famous documents that we had seen at the National Archives a few months ago.
We then headed across the street to see the Liberty Bell. It is in a brand new building, not like I remembered at all. There was a lot of information about the history and significance of the bell that we read as we approached it.
From there, we walked a couple of blocks to Franklin Court where we were first greeted by Ben’s toilet (well, his septic tank, I guess). We walked down. down, down into the museum where we saw some of Ben’s furniture and an armonica. The movie about his life was quite interesting as well.
When we got back up to the light, we went to a printing press demonstration which was quite interesting. The girls enjoyed seeing how pages were printed on the cool looking press.
