Ireland Trip: Day 3
After having stayed up past 2am, I couldn’t get up at 5am despite waking then. Instead, I forced myself to try to sleep past 8am. I then got up, despite not feeling totally rested. After taking care of a few things and then waking the rest of the family, we had some cereal for breakfast. Barbara and I decided to go for a walk, then Chloe decided to join us.
Our walk turned into an adventure. We found the right trail quickly where we met friendly dogs and Barbara found geocaches. After following the tourist train track for some time, we decided to leave the paved trail and to take a side trail that was less-traveled. What a great choice! We wound around various points, close to the edge of cliffs and through heavy winds towards Giant’s Causeway. We made it to the museum and then walked down and met Rob and Camille there. After exploring the rock formations for some time, we hiked back up to the visitor’s center and relaxed a bit and looked at the gift shop.
It was after 3pm, and we were ready for lunch, so back into Bushmills we headed. The French Room had stopped serving lunch, but we had a number of small plates and bread and coffee and tea and then cake. Very filling!
Camille chose to stay in Bushmills to explore. Chloe had us take her home so she could nap. Rob, Barbara and I drove along the Antrim Coast to Carrick-A-Rede. We made a few stops and watched a sheep chase. We had been told the rope bridge was closed due to the wind, but we decided to take the trail down (and up and down) to it anyway. On the way back home, we stopped at the Co-op in Bushmills for provisions and a geocaching meetup.
At the cottage, we all got busy with projects and had tortellini for dinner.
