travels: SE Maine
On March 9th, I went to the airport for my Global Entry interview…. ironic, as I haven’t been to the airport since. In fact, I haven’t traveled since… other than a over-protected, three gas stop commute from Atlanta to Cape Cod back in June. Since arriving at home on the Cape, I have not crossed to the other side of the canal … until today.
My mom needed to find a geocache in Maine, so I agreed to be her co-pilot for the day. Amazingly, I did not have a panic attack as we crossed the bridge and left the Cape. It was early enough that we drove through Boston on the way up. Tall buildings! Billboards!
Our first stop was the Kittery Naval Museum — closed, but the geocache was not difficult to find. Then on to LLBean. We had hoped that by arriving early, it might not be too crowded. We looked at a couple of things (dog toys and bags, of course) then picked out a few souvenirs from the bins by the registers. By then, it was starting to get a little too crowded, and we made our escape. Out on the front lawn, people were attending a spin class – well distanced from one another, of course.
From LLBean, we headed to Ogunquit. The coastal town has been featured in a number of books that I’ve read recently, and I wanted to see it for myself. Cute, but far too crowded. Like driving down Commercial Street in P-town. Once we got out of town, there were not many people, and the coastline was gorgeous! Cape Neddick and the Nubble Lighthouse were breathtaking as was the cost along York Harbor. I just wish there were fewer people around!
