cape life: timber!
On the marsh side of the property, there is a line of cedars that have all died. The arborist told us why, but I can’t remember. Root rot? We wanted to take them all down, but he suggested removing those closest to the house and leaving the rest as habitat for the wildlife.
Of course, being so close to the marsh, we had to get approval from the conservation commission. We feared they’d give us a hard time, but they said “Dead, dead, dead. Go ahead and take them down.” Happy to hear, but I put my trust in the arborist over them in whether or not it is a good idea for the trees to come down ….
In addition to the cedars, we had a dead scotch pine that was very close to the house taken down as well. And some tree trimming down…
As sad as it is to lose some nice trees and no longer have the woodpecker visit, I do like how much more open the side yard feels now!
