college search: massachusetts colleges
September break. Time to tour the schools in the northeast that Camille is interested in!
We flew into Boston and spent the night there to get a little bit of a feel for the city.
Driving out of town, we went through Northeastern to see where it is situated. From there, we took a leisurely drive through Wellesley. It wasn’t at all what I had pictured, but visiting didn’t make Camille reconsider not having it on her list.
Then out to the five colleges. We drove through Mount Holyoke (Camille loved the campus but not S. Hadley). Hampshire – not at all Camille’s school. And then Amherst. Nice campus, but not a good fit for Camille. Finally, we arrived in Northampton. Before visiting the college, we spent a few hours exploring the town. So many bookstores! Coffeeshops! A very nice vibe to the place, for sure. And then I was surprised to see how close to town the college is. Just a block away from the center of it all! We wandered around for a while, then called it a night.
The next morning, we returned for the information session and tour. I really enjoyed learning more about the school and I think Camille did too. Downsides are that the library will be out of commission for three years and that there is no nearby “big” city.
