college search: nc/sc schools
Camille and I took the first half of February break to visit a handful of schools in North and South Carolina. None were high on her list (I don’t know if very many are high on her list yet), but I thought we could get started with some tours and learn more about what she likes and doesn’t like in a college.
Our first school to look at was Salem College, a women’s college in Winston-Salem. As we drove into town on Sunday night, the snow started to come down heavily. By morning, the school was closed. Thankfully, we were able to still have a tour and sit in on some “Scholarship Weekend” lectures. Camille and I enjoyed our snowy visit, but were not sure that the school would be the right fit for her.
From there, we drove down to Davidson College, where we saw another Decatur family visiting as well. The school had a lovely campus and Camille even got to touch a Rodin! Again, we enjoyed the tour and information session – each school we visit we learn more about what we should be looking for. But maybe no the right fit either.
As we drove into Greenville towards our hotel, the road started to freeze. Ice everywhere! I was so glad when we finally made it to the hotel!
The next day our first tour was at Furman University; the tour was delayed by an hour because of the bad weather. The college was way too far from the city for Camille; she really wants something much more urban.
And our final tour was at Wofford College. Yet again another Decatur family on the tour. By the time the extra-long tour was over, Camille and I were ready to head home.
None of these schools felt like the right place, but maybe as we learn more about what Camille wants and what’s out there, we’ll come back.
