college search: georgia schools
while we had looked at schools in NYC and Florida, we hadn’t yet looked at many schools here in Georgia – Camille had done a day at a Georgia Tech program – but no real investigations. One Saturday in February, Camille had a GHP interview in Locust Grove. Being halfway to Macon, we decided to check out a few schools, too. After a pitstop at The Whistle Stop Cafe for fried green tomatoes, we continued south.
In Macon, we first drove through Wesleyan College. What a sweet campus with a pretty lake and an equestrian center! We drove around a few times, trying to see as much as we could. The location was not ideal as it is a bit outside Macon, and the campus seemed a bit deserted. We wondered if many students go home on the weekends.
Frem Wesleyan, we drove into Macon. I’ve never loved Macon, but we wanted to see the actual Mercer University campus. We were impressed. It looks like there has been a lot of construction to improve the campus. Again, just wasn’t looking like the right fit for Camille. We’ll see. After looking at the campus, we explored downtown Macon. Looks like revitalization is happening on every block. Can’t wait to see more!
From Macon, we drove out to Milledgeville to have a look at Georgia College & State University. I had never been to Milledgeville before; what a sweet town and a nice campus. I think the town itself is too remote for Camille, unfortunately.
None of these schools had been ones that Camille had any real interest in seeing, but it was nice to get to see some parts of Georgia that we had not seen before.
