photo friday: riding the rails in ireland
Though probably not the fastest nor cheapest choice, I made the decision that for our weekend trip to Ireland, we would ride IrishRail. Since all five of us were going together, but Barbara was flying out of Dublin and Rob had to head back to Galway a day earlier than the girls and I were going, the train seemed like a nice option.
Barbara and I walked to the station in Galway to ask about buying tickets – the stationmaster’s response? “Go online and buy them. Cheaper that way.” Well then, ok. It was a bit of a complicated process what with kids, seniors, different travel dates, etc, but we made it work. And when we got on the train? Our seats even had our names over them!!
The train was very comfortable, with outlets and a table. And even “Something from the trolley, dears?” From Heuston Station in Dublin, we too the Luas tram into the center of town. The stop was close to our apartment, but not as close to the rental office…so Barbara and I left our rolly bags with Rob and the girls and walked up to get the keys.
For our trip home, the girls and I walked to the train station – it was really not all that far and then we hung out in the station, which, crazy as it sounds.
