needle ice
With my Friday morning conference call ending early, Phelix and I headed out to Arabia ahead of plan. With our rush to leave, I neglected to check the weather for the day. I just threw on my usual: Keens (no socks), jeans, a turtleneck and a sweatshirt. When we arrived, Poppy reported that the temperature was still only 34! Thankfully, I enjoy the chilly weather!
As we walked along, we encountered patches of ice. On the Forest Trail, we hit only a few. Once we arrived at the base of the outcropping, we found ice, and lots of it. Phelix went slipping and sliding, pulling me along after him. Each time I stopped to try to get a photo, he’d step right on the ice I was trying to capture.
While the ice that had formed in the small pools of water was beautiful, what struck me more were the tiny “ice needles” hiding under the dirt of the trail. Unbelievably gorgeous. Again, with Phelix along, I had a hard time capturing the beauty of this needle ice.
