volunteering: red cross

I haven’t said a work about the red cross for months. One might think that I’ve quit in my goal to volunteer there.

But, no, I have been heading over to the chapter at least once a week for almost a year now. Despite some upheavals at the Red Cross, I’ve found a nice little niche and keep up with my project there. Last year I didn’t look forward to going (“I don’t have time!”) but this year I do look forward to heading in each week (“I have time!”)

I have not been out on a fire call in over a year. Unfortunately, with one car and two kids and other things, being “on call” is just too stressful. Perhaps as I move forward in my happiness project and the girls get older, I will be able to return to DAT calls.

I continue to train in hopes that one day I can be an uber-volunteer, heading off to staff shelters around the country, as has been a long time dream of mine. One step at a time — but look how far I’ve come in a year and a half!!
