photo friday: pyrgos, santorini
As I mentioned in photo friday: akrotiri and red beach, we got hot on our hike back from the beach, so we got some drinks to cool off. Unfortunately, those drinks ended up causing a minor emergency which led to an unexpected adventure…
As we waited for the bus from Akrotiri back the the “bus station” in Thira, Chloe began to feel the pressure of her drink in her bladder. We didn’t have time to run over to the museum, because the bus would be there “any minute”. But we kept waiting, and waiting. Finally, the bus arrived and we were on our way. But not soon enough.
Chloe was in pain. She just couldn’t hold it any longer. I had no idea what to do. Finally, the bus stopped. And we jumped off. And Chloe ran to the nearest restaurant and was pointed in the right direction. Whew, crisis averted.
Except that I had no idea where we were or when the next bus to Thira might roll on through. We decided to get a bite at the little restaurant where Chloe had used the facilities. After figuring out that we were in Pyrgos, we then knew that the next bus wouldn’t arrive for over an hour, so we set off exploring. As in Oia and Thira, the hill is car-free and had some interesting alleyways. Unlike the bigger villages, there were almost no tourists and we practically had the place to ourselves.
And the bus did return and get us back to Thira, where we still had time for dinner before the last bus back to Kamari left. Or so I thought.
