photo friday: akrotiri and red beach, santorini
Santorini – for such a small island there were so many things to do, and we couldn’t get them all in during our short stay. With Camille’s love for all things ancient, I decided that a trip to Akrotiri would be an excellent choice. The active archaeological dig is also a museum where visitors get to explore some of the area already exposed. Both girls enjoyed walking through the streets of what is called Atlantis by many.
From there, we decided to walk over to Red Beach. While we thought it was right over the hill, it ended up being a longer walk than expected and then down the face of a steep cliff. Camille is a bit afraid of heights, so it took all her strength to make it to the beach. The fairly remote, deserted beach was covered in red pebbles, which Chloe enjoyed digging in. Unfortunately, the water was far too cold. On the hike back to the bus, we stopped for drinks at a tourist shop where the owner dug out some chairs for us to rest in. Unfortunately, Chloe drank too much of her juice which led to a whole new adventure down the road.
