Greece Trip: Day 5
No wake up alarm today! This might be the only morning on the trip where we all could sleep in a little bit. Even so, we could all feel that our bodies are just exhausted from the pace we’ve been keeping. The breakfast buffet here was a little better than in the last hotel. At breakfast, the hotel people told us about the planned protests here and warned that some public transit would be stopped and some sights would be closed. Since I wanted to see the changing of the guard, we finished breakfast quickly and ran up to see it before the chaos descended. The girls would not go up to stand next to the guard with me, but I did it. I felt like I was standing much closer to him than I actually was.
Back at the hotel, we bought tickets to go to Delphi, then regrouped and headed out to a few more sights. We visited Hadrian’s Library, the Roman Agora and the Ancient Agora. All three were close together and easy to get to. Chloe went in a few shops between each sight. We then wandered through the “flea market”, stopping in a few different stores.
As it was now mid-afternoon, we were all getting hungry, so we stopped at a restaurant on a plaza near the hotel and had a leisurely lupper. From there, I went right back to the hotel. Rob and the girls stopped in the department store, and Chloe bought a scarf. I worked on photos and then took a nap for a couple hours. Rob and the girls went out to get snacks for the evening and for tomorrow’s bus trip.
Even with the announced protests, we still have yet to see the Athens we warned about – sketchy and scary.
