Greece Trip: Day 1
After just a few hours of sleep, it was time to start into a full day of travel beginning in Paris. We slowly got off the plane, navigating down the jet stairs to the tarmac and climbing on a bus. After a tour of the airport, we arrived. With no signs and no boards telling us where to go, we finally found our way to immigration, which was quick and easy. Security, on the other hand, was not. People were at the wrong terminal. People had liquids. Including Chloe. The agent made Chloe go off to a bathroom around the corner to empty her bottle and made the rest of us go through security, so Chloe was off on her own for a few minutes. At that point, I was more worried about missing our flight than about her, though.
We made our way to the gate and even had five minutes to spare to use the restrooms. The Air France flight from Paris to Athens was filled with teen girls who were giggly and loud. We were served a breakfast of fromage fraise and a croissant. I tried to sleep a little more.
At the Athens import, we took our time using the restrooms and the free wi-fi. We also bought some cokes to get the caffeine needed for the rest of the day. We made our way out to the buses, bought tickets and waited for the x96 to Piraeus. The bus ride was almost an hour, but interesting to see different parts of the city. At Piraeus, we got off the bus at the train station. Chloe had to pee badly, so she and I searched for a restroom, finally finding it in the train station – it wasn’t bad, actually!
We wandered around the port, finding the right office to pick up the ferry tickets for Santorini and for Crete. After finding the right ferry, we still had three hours before we could get on the boat (and 6 before it was scheduled to leave)so we headed back out and found a restaurant. Camille had some dolmas, Rob had a gyro and Chloe and I shared a salad. With still lots of time to spare we headed back to the boat and watched the trucks load cargo onto it.
Once we got on the boat, we were shown our four bunk room with private bath. After showers, we explored the boat and went to the lounge for a snack. By the time the boat left the port, we were all ready for bed and went right to sleep.
