Greece Trip: Day 0
Time to hit the road! And the skies! And the rails! And the water!
With a LONG trip ahead of us to get to Crete, I tried to make sure the girls got enough sleep, but I was too wired to get settled myself. 5am came way too fast. But I was up and started to make the final preparations. Coffee, work, update to the blog theme, dog-walking and girls off to school for a couple of hours.
Rob packed up his bags, did some final prep work and then headed off to drop off Phelix and pick up the girls early from school. I’m really not concerned what the schools might think of the girls missing a few days. This trip is so much more than what school does!
I cleaned up, took out the trash, etc, etc. and then it was time for us to walk and roll over to MARTA. We just missed the earlier train and had to wait in the muggy station for the next. While changing at Five Points, we ran into our neighbor who was also headed to the airport. When he asked where we were headed, my answer was “Crete!” (I bet he didn’t expect that for an answer:)
We got through security easily and took the concourse train out to Concourse E where we had a big lunch. While we were eating the alarm went off, but after ten minutes of the emergency alarm and message, the emergency was “cleared”. Not that anyone was paying any attention to the alarm whatsoever!
We headed down to our gate where the flight was boarding. There was plenty of room for our bags in the overhead, so we all settled in nicely. I watched “Catching Fire” and “Wlater Mitty”, ate only a couple bits of the “dinner” that was served, then slept (hope I didn’t snore too loudly!).
As we had breakfast and got ready to land, I watched the movie “Adult Children of Divorce” without the sound. As so many of the scenes were filmed on Ponce in Decatur, Chloe and I were pointing at the screen and exclaiming for much of it. And then we saw our home, The Artisan, right there on the screen as we were landing in Paris.
