“volunteering”: gymnastics meet
This past weekend, Chloe’s gymnastics gym hosted the big “state meet” for a number of levels, not including Chloe’s. We “gym parents” have been inundated with emails for weeks now in regards to what we are required to donated and what our required volunteer shifts will be. I find it a bit off-putting to call these required shifts “volunteer” ones, but I showed up.
Friday afternoon I hauled myself and my required donations of 24 cans of coke, 2 packs of K-cups, juice boxes, and so on over to Avondale Middle School. Despite having driven within a block of it a thousand times, I’d never actually seen the school. When I found my way in, I ended up running into an old friend whose son goes to the school, which is currently hosting Fernbank Elementary as it goes through construction.
I spent over two hours making tables “look pretty” for the judged and others. We started to turn the gym from a regular school gymnasium into a lovely gymnastics competition space.
And Saturday morning I was back for three hours, working at the entry table. Not happy to have to give up a weekend to a meet that Chloe wasn’t een competing in, but happy to get my “required volunteering” out of the way early on in the weekend….
