volunteering: smoke detector blitz
This weekend is the Fall Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector Blitz here in Decatur. As a member of the Fire CAPS (Citizens Assisting Public Safety) team, I am welcomed and encouraged to join along. While in the past, I’ve ridden along in one of the big firetrucks, yesterday I was lucky enough to get to ride with Captain Burton. Never a dull moment with her! For two hours, we drove around to various houses on the list, installing and checking smoke detectors. The whole afternoon gave off a lovely “small town vibe” and made me grateful to be able to live and volunteer in this community.
Alas, while I am happy to install smoke detectors in the homes of others, mine is sitting in the laundry room, useless. Every time I cook, even make pasta, it goes off. It is SO loud and SO sensitive, that I hate it. I think I’d like to get one of these cuties.
