Georgia: Traveler’s Rest
Georgia State Parks . Highlands Region . Historical . Museums Article
As we continue with our field trips related to our Georgia history studies, I decided to find a field trip that was close to a state park where we could camp. So last weekend, we headed to the Travelers Rest Historic Site. Only open on Saturdays form 9-5, we couldn’t make it on a weekday. So Saturday we packed up Evie after spending the night camping at Tugallo State Park and drove backroads to Traveler’s Rest. Built in 1815 as a stagecoach inn on the Unicoi Turnpike, the building had a fascinating history, and both girls enjoyed walking through all the rooms and seeing all the furniture, furnishings and more.
