mother’s day
Despite my desire to celebrate each and every day, I’m terrible at celebrating events like my own birthday and Mother’s Day and even Christmas.
When the celebration gets *personal* and I’m expected to give meaningful gifts or send personal messages or cards, I fall apart. Take the crafts and recipes for “National Blonde Brownie Day” — not so much pressure, and I can rise to the occasion.
As I took Phelix out for a nice walk through the “park” today, I saw crowds of people outside the Thumbs Up. I can’t imagine wanting to spend “Mother’s Day” waiting in a crowd for a table at the local diner. Not my idea of a good time. Is this because we eat out often already? Or because I’m not a huge fan of “breakfast” foods? Or because I hate waiting, losing the time that I find slipping away so quickly?
In any case, I got up at 5am this morning and READ (yes, read) for two hours, then made some dark, strong coffee. My idea of heaven — good book, good coffee, quiet morning. I took the puppy out for his business trip, and he was a good puppy. The rest of the day, we spent cleaning and organizing. Maybe not a great, special day, but one I’ve been planning for recently. Once the girls’ room is cleaned up, we can work on the FUN stuff. Posters, shelves, chalkboards, decorations. And once that’s done, it will be time to move onto MY bathroom and bedroom!!
BUT, I did take the time to walk out to the pool deck to meet a cool mom. I met one of her sons through kids’ music – went to his English language school when we were in Japan. Then, when we moved to Decatur, I managed to figure out (thanks, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) that his brother was here in the same building we had moved to. (Small World!) Tonight, via the same socia networking, I realized that there mom was here too. So I dragged the girls out to the pool deck to meet her. HEck, they visited her son in Japan, and I figured that would be a bonus to a mom’s Mother’s Day, right??
Where did all the flowers go ??
