photo friday: st. augustine
As part of Camille’s homeschooling for this year, I decided that an interesting topic for us to cover would be the history of Georgia. Camille has lived here almost her entire life and has yet to see many of the important historic sites. We started out great, visiting a number of “pre-European” sites, including a number of burial and temple mounds. As we moved into the arrival of the Europeans, school started for Chloe and classes started for Camille and we have slowed down. I think the project will now be a multi-year one in the end since it depends so heavily on our hectic schedules.
While we were in Orlando for Chloe’s September break, I decided that a detour to the Atlantic coast on the way home would be a great idea — turning a 6.5 hour trip into a 10+ one, since I insisted on taking the shore road, A1A for as long as possible. After stopping for a lovely picnic lunch on the beach in Marineland, FL (We must return!), we headed up to St. Augustine to visit the fort as part of our Georgia History studies. While Florida isn’t Georgia, back in the early days the state lines hand’t been drawn, so the fort *could* have been in Georgia.
This is an entry for Delicious Babyโs Photo Friday.

The fort is truly remarkable. Hope to make it back there.
