new2school: school picnic
Last Friday, Camille, Chloe, Chloe’s friend and I packed up some fruit, veggies, bread and cheese and made our way down to Oakhurst for Chloe’s school picnic. Last year, Chloe attended the picnic with friends as we were starting to consider having her attend school there in a few months.
Chloe’s school year last year was pretty terrible (maybe I’ll get to writing about that sometime), so I also approach the school and people there with lots of apprehension, but Chloe really wanted to go, so I put on a smile and made it happen. We found ourselves a spot on the lawn and settled in. But then Chloe ran off with her friend to play with the other kids.
Camille read a depressing book (The Fault in Our Stars by John Green) and I read my magazine. I knew about three people there. I went to say hello to those that I do know, but I have a feeling I will always feel on the outside at school functions. At first, I was feeling depressed about being all alone. Then, I realized I have to either decide to be content with being an uninvolved, outside observer or do something to find a place.
For the moment, I’d rather stay to the outside, especially after last year’s experiences. With time, maybe that will change. But for now, I’ll do my best to do what I can to help Chloe find HER place in HER school.
