Around Selcuk – Day 12
The early morning (is 4:15am morning?) call to prayer interrupted what little bit of sleep we had. The parties and traffic and heat had made sleeping a little difficult. After breakfast, we headed out in the minivan to explore the area. After buying gas (a little bit of a comedy routine as we had no idea if the van was diesel or not — it was), we took the road by the upper gate of Ephesus and switchbacked up the mountain to the House of Virgin Mary.
From there, we headed back down the hill and then over to the beach road. We drove by the waterparks, then turned around and headed to a restaurant on the beach, Dereli Restaurant. The patio was a pleasant place to pass the time, with nice food and a view of the Aegean Sea. After our large, late lunch, the girls and Suze went swimming in the sea before we headed back to the house.
We went for a walk into town to pick up various groceries. I went to walk into the bakery, then realized it wasn’t the shop, but the ovens. One is supposed to buy bread at the window!
