Reading about Turkey
When preparing for a trip, I always like to read. Not just the travel books, but historical books, historical fiction, travel narratives, fiction, just about anything I can get my hands on. For my own future reference, of for yours, here is a list of some of the books I read or skimmed before our trip to Turkey.
- Lonely Planet Turkey by James Bainbridge
- Frommer’s Turkey with Your Family: From Bustling Bazaars to Historic Sites by Carole French
- Turkey–Bright Sun, Strong Tea: On the Road with a Travel Writer… by Tom Brosnahan
- Tales from the Expat Harem: Foreign Women in Modern Turkey by Anastasia M. Ashman
- Crescent and Star: Turkey Between Two Worlds by Stephen Kinzer
- Belshazzar’s Daughter by Barbara Nadel
- The Ottoman Cage: A Novel of Istanbul by Barbara Nadel
- The Bastard of Istanbul by Elif Shafak
