looking back
What do you want your kids to remember when they are adults and look back at their childhoods?
The other night at the cabin, as the girls giggled and chatted deep into the night, I could feel myself getting more and more upset. Why were they not respecting my need for sleep? Didn’t they know I had to get up to work soon? How could they be so rude?!? Me, me, me.
Stop right there. What do I want to the girls to remember about sharing a room at the cabin? That I kept coming down to yell at them to be quiet? Or that they loved staying up late talking and sharing and enjoying being with each other? Well, that’s easy. And I was soon able to fall asleep with a smile thinking about how happy I am that, for the most part, my girls get along great and are becoming best of friends.
Too bad I had a meltdown the next day from lack of sleep and too much stress … I sure hope they’ll forget that and remember the fun they had talking to each other late into the night. Sigh. Time for me to invest in a pair of earplugs and a sleep mask, I suppose.
