A Weekend of Justin Roberts is Just Not Enough
36 hours after escaping north Georgia, we hit the road again … back to DC. There’s just something about that city which keeps calling us back! This trip was focused on a fantastic Chicago-based k-rocker, Justin Roberts. I think after Ralph, Justin was the second k-rocker that we ever heard. We haven’t had many chances to see him perform, so we were very much looking forward to the weekend.
We arrived at XM early and hung out with some friends before the show. What a great show! Not only were we treated to olf favorites, but we also got to hear some of the new tunes from the soon-to-be-released Jungle Gym. Justin is such an expressive performer, and the “Not Ready for Naptime Players” are fantastic. What fun — Chloe danced the night away. We thought the show was wonderful, but a little short. I was glad we had bought tickets to see them again the next day at Jammin’ Java.
My hotel choice was a good one. Despite not liking the neighborhood very much — it isn’t very safe — staying a block form XM was really perfect when returning from a late evening show at XM after having gotten up at 4am for the drive.
The next day, we slept in, went swimming and had a leisurely brunch before heading out to the wilds of suburban Virginia for the show at Jammin’ Java. Parking was complicated, but finally we were in! We were blown away by the show. Justin was incredible, despite having already played two shows earlier. I debated heading to Philly to see him yet again on Sunday, but decided that would not be a wise choice.
We cannot wait for the new CD, and to see him again in Brooklyn in a couple of months. And hopefully sometime soon in Atlanta. If you don’t yet have a Justin Roberts CD in your music library, you need to rectify that right now.
