uncle ralph
Back in 2002, when Camille was four and Chloe was an infant, Rob was a member of eMusic.com. One night, he and Camille went searching that site for alternatives in kids’ music…we were SO tired of the drivel we had been listening to over and over. They both really liked music from a Chicago kids’ rock band called Ralph’s World. Rob burned a CD with two Ralph’s World albums on it, and I mostly ignored it — it’s kids’ music, right? A month later, I was flipping through the Atlanta Parent magazine and saw that Ralph was going to be playing at the local Borders, so I added that to our calendar. A chance to get out and hear some music? Cool. To prepare, Camille and I listened to the CD. And it was good. And we kept listening. And kept listening. And we were thrilled when the date of the show finally arrived because we would meet Ralph! That was January 15, 2003. Camille was four, and Chloe was 6 months old.
Fast Forward 6.5 years, a few dozen Ralph’s World shows for us in far flung places like DisneyWorld, GA, TN, KY, DC, MD, NY, OH, MO, IL, CA and TX, along with 5 or so at our house. Yes, we are certified Ralpheads, all because of a minor coincidence.
Ralph has been a large part of my children’s lives. And our love for his music was the start of a great musical adventure for our family.
