Arrival in Nice
We woke a little earlier this morning and headed right to Nimes over a road that looked just like central Texas. We parked the car and found a cafe for some breakfast before walking over to the Arena, which looks like a small Coliseum. We walked around it, Chloe got a pen like the one Camille had gotten at Orange, and then we went back to the car.
In Arles, we ended up in the middle of a huge market. It was very slow going. Just about every other person told us that the license plate was hanging sideways (one screw had come out). It was surprising how many people told us — I wonder what the problem is? As soon as we got out of the craziness of the market, Barbara pulled over and we tried to fix the plate with floss, but it wouldn’t hold. A man from the garage that we were in front of came out to his car and Barbara asked him for help. He went in the garage, go the right tool and fixed it in no time flat.
We bailed on Arles and got back on the autoroute with all the other vacationers. The traffic was backed up for the toll booth and then again for rubbernecking an accident going the other way. We got off the highway in Nice and ended up on a street that was moving super slowly. We finally got in the parking garage, unloaded our bags and found out how the parking pass would work. We walked the half mile to the apartment — one bag broke and then I read the wrong street number. We got in the huge apartment, but the man letting us in managed to lock himself out of his apartment.
We dropped our bags and then headed out to the grocery store for lots of food and drinks. We had a quiet evening at the apartment, getting unpacked, having dinner and relaxing.
