Fall Family Fun
Rob came home from DC for the weekend. While we didn’t have the weekend we had originally planned, we did have some fall fun! I was worried that we would end up spending the whole weekend “taking care of stuff,” and I really didn’t want that to happen. After taking care of a bunch of things around the house (and the cars — car trippers’ cars need oil changes), we headed up to the north Georgia mountains.
On Sunday, after a slow morning, we headed to Ellijay, the apple capital of Georgia. Our idea was to go to Hilltop Orchards as they have lots of apples as well as a petting zoo, and then head to Burt’s Pumpkin Farm. We were in for a big surprise at Hilltop. Its business has boomed and the number of activities available have mushroomed!
The girls were anxious to get to the petting farm, but Camille stopped along the way to milk a cow and Chloe stopped to ride in a trike derby. In the petting farm, the girls both loved holding the kittens and chicks. The little goats kept trying to eat our hair and clothes.
The girls went on a giant slide and a zip line before the extreme event. I’m not sure how it related to apples, but there was a bungee jumping area and both girls wanted to try it. Bouncing flipping and flying through the air on a gorgeous fall afternoon.
Finally, we got to what I wanted to do….walk through the avenues of trees and pick apples. The girls had a great time finding the apples they wanted. We very quickly filled our bag. Inside the store, I bought a beautiful market basket that was made in Ghana.
Driving by Burt’s, we decided to skip venturing in. The parking lot was full and the farm looked overcrowded. Not fun, though I do miss seeing the rows and rows of orange pumpkins!

OH, I want to see a picture of the basket! Every year I tell myself that we need to go Apple picking. I haven’t gotten beyond the telling yet…
