Thursday Thirteen
My friend Kat over at Sunshine and Lemonade posted a list of thriteen places she’d like to go. My thirteen is a little different from hers. I’d say that her lists includes quite a few places that I’d like to take my kids (Colonial Williamsburg, Yellowstone), but only one or two places that I have not been to but would like to go to (Alaska, Hawaii).
So, I’ll start my thirteen, but may not finish as we have to catch the train to NYC this evening. Nope, didn’t finish filling in many details, but here it is anyway.
1. Okinawa
Okinawa not a place I’ve always wanted to go to, but it is where we are going this summer. We will be spending a week in Okinawa and then a week touring in Honshu (where I have been before). I still need to work on that! Yikes!
2. Hadrian’s Wall and London – maybe Stonehenge
Ever since Camille started taking Latin class, we’ve been fascinated by Hadrian’s Wall. Camille and I are planning to walk the length of the wall next summer. There are lots of neat tour companies that help you arrange places to sleep and ways to get around. At the end of the trek we want to go to London for a few days to see the sight (King’s Cross, Diagon Alley, Grimold Place, you know, the important places) and maybe get out to Stonehenge! Here are Camille and Chloe on the wall…
3. Machu Picchu
I have wanted to go to Machu Picchu forever. The ancient Incas fascinate me.
4. The Great Pyramids
Okay, sensing a theme here? Going to Egypt and visiting the Pyramids would be awesome. And there are so many other historical sites in Egypt (of course) that would be fascinating to visit.
5. China – Great Wall
And then a final anceint wonder, of course. Rob’s gotten to go there, but the girls and I haven’t been to China. I really hope that one day we will get to see the wall. Like Hadrian’s Wall, it might be fun to walk part of it, but I don’t think I’d be up for walking the whole thing. Rob and coworkers — I guess it was kind of cold there!
6. Athens and the Greek Isles
Need I say more? I love the contrast of the blues and whites. I love olives. Camille loves ancient history. I had a blast reading The Summer of my Greek Taverna. And don’t you just want to say “It’s all Greek to me?”
7. Brazil
I love Brazilian music. There’s so much that is fascinating about Brazil. And it is such a hugely diverse country, I don’t know how I’d chose what to go see…
8. Florence, Venice, Rome
Yeah, Italy in general. I’ve been to Italy for one day, then drove to Monaco and France — the perched villiages in France are somewhere I’d recommend people visit. Between Under the Tuscan Sun and The Rossetti Letter (and Lizzie McGuire, yikes), I’m ready to go.
9. Sydney
10. Kilamanjaro – inspired by the IMAX movie
11. Antarctica
12. Copenhagen
13. Easter Island – I finally remembered!

Great list! A lot of this *is* on my list…I just haven’t posted my international list yet. I decided that I am not going to do it next week because now I can’t focus on anything except thinking of travel!
