Happy Mothers’ Day!
I was five days late for Cinco de Mayo, so one day late for Mothers’ Day isn’t so bad, right?
My mom comes to stay with us all the time, so I wanted my mothers’ day gift to her (and my mothers’ day gift to myself – I realize it is something for MY house) was to redecorate “Grandma’s Room” at our house. The inspiration for the room came in part from a gift she gave me…you’ll see that at the end.
The room used to be the furniture graveyard. It’s where we dumped everything that we didn’t know where to put.
Rob spent the last month painting the room. The hardest part? Finding ceiling paint that matched the original paint in order to do some touch up. Our builder could not recall what she used. Rob tried three different ones, finally settling on Lowe’s. Don’t tell Rob, but Camille’s opinion is that it doesn’t match.
Yesterday we went to IKEA to get the bed. That wasn’t too hard. However, they had changed the end table style so that the one on the display and the one in the warehouse were completely different. I did not like the warehouse one, so I am thinking of some other ideas. We got the car unloaded, but Rob had to pack, so it was too late to do anything.
Of course, I have no sense of waiting, so after working this morning, I started to assemble the bed. The girls helped hold things and get screws and get in the way. We have some leftover parts that Rob will have to sort out when he comes home from Utah.
Having been successful at assembling the bed, the table was a snap. We got it put together in no time. We then had time to run to Target for some linens and things. I spent quite a long time agonizing — if Target had fully stocked shelves, it would be a whole lot easier!
It is starting to come together! We have a couple more trips to Target and a couple more to IKEA, but now it is a room that can be used again after being out of commission for over a month.
And, the inspiration? A print that is now hanging on the wall.
PS. Camille is considering making the space her own…

Beautiful room, you have the talent of professional interior decorator.
Camille’s shirt matches the colors of the room!
Camille is right — the ceiling paint does not match _exactly_, but only if you look for it …
Oh, I love the room! The browns and blues are one of my favorite combinations. I like that bed frame, too. We don’t have a headboard on our bed…and it seems like it’s missing something. Might have to look into an IKEA trip…
