The Mandated Wave
People should not move to our city unless they are willing to be friendly. Everyone waves at everyone. It make no difference if you know to whom you are waving…you just wave at everyone who goes by. I have quickly adapted to this way of life…the mandate takes away that fear of being embarassed about waving at someone who may not remember you.
BUT, I have embraced it so quickly that I have already forgotten that this is something we do in our city and not everyone else waves to each other. When I leave our little city to go to the grocery store, I continue to wave to everyone. And most of them give me very strange looks. Once in a while, the recipient will wave back and start talking to me. So maybe being friendly to everyone could seep out of our city and become a nationwide trend. Wouldn’t that be cool?
