Japan Trip, Day -1
The end of another day is here. Gazoo is feeling better, but still not back to herself. She played with Chloe, but didn’t ask to go outside at all. She’s getting around okay, though she’s not quite so eager to jump. As for preparations, I took care of a lot of my “chores”. Plus we
Kindle, Day Two
Yesterday (day 2) I decided to buy a couple of books that I had sampled the previous day. First, I couldn’t get the wireless to work (This seems to be the big downfall.) Then, I finally managed to click “Buy This book”. The Kindle told me it was working okay, but when I returned to
Japan Trip, Day -2
Here we are, preparing for our big trip. How? Me, tying up loose ends at work. Timesheets, weekly reports, and the actual work too. Rob, at the beach with the girls. Gazoo, well, see the earlier post. Honestly, I have done no more than to get the laundry done and to gather electronics that may
(gazoo.nLives)–
Early (well, maybe not SO early) this morning, the tree guys arrived to cut down one tree, and one trunk of another. Pine Lake, being so progressive, requires that homeowners get permission before removing trees, and we, being type A, of course, crossed the i’s and dotted the t’s. Well, it was done by email
Kindle, First Thoughts
Camille was so excited to see a package locker key in our mail yesterday … I had looked at the tracking and knew that it had arrived at the post office, so I wasn’t too surprised. When we took it out, it struck me that it was actually smaller than I had expected. The carrying
Success!
We have managed to search amazon from the kindle and download samples of two books. Moreover, the Kindle has a rudimentary browser, which we can use to surf the “PDA” web (you know, text only and all that). We haven’t yet chosen to buy a book, but can sense that will happen very, very soon.
It’s Hot
Too hot to think. And I have so much thinking that I need to do this week in order to finish up projects at work and to get us ready to go. Like yesterday, we realized that we need to buy Japan Rail passes while still in the US in order to get the substantial
Kindle Me Not
I’ve been debating for a month now whether to spend the money on this new piece of technology. Generally, I am not on the bleeding edge; I wait for the hoopla (and price) to come down before jumping on the bandwagon. Second-generation technology is good enough. But with our upcoming 2.5 week trip, I was
Taddy the Tadpole
Yesterday, I went out to look at the pond and notices that it was a quite active habitat. I crossed my fingers, hoping that what I saw in it was a colony of tadpoles. We have a frog that found our pond and talks to the frog next door, so it was a distinct possibility
Mosaic Me
The Whole Ball of Yarn(s) posted this fun little flickr game that caught my attention. The concept:a. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.b. Using only the first page, pick an image.c. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into fd’s mosaic maker. The Questions:1. What is your
New Cookbook Idea
well, maybe it is already out there. Please tell me. In general, I like cooking. I’m not very experienced, so things don’t always turn out well and it takes me longer that I’d like to cook many things. The girls very often don’t like what I make, because they are very particular (Chloe likes only
Expedit – Now Made in the USA
Do you call your furniture by name? I lovingly talk about my Billys. Then there’s the Hemnes in the guest bedroom. I meet other frequent IKEA shoppers that do the same; I know I’m not alone. IKEA made the front page of the Washington Post today (Ikea Helps a Town Put It Together), and this
Getting Around
Sheesh. We’ve been living here for a year now. You think I wouldn’t get so lost. Coming home from the mountains, we dropped off books at our current library (apologies to the woman behind me that had to wait while we tried to dig out all the library books from various canvas bags in the
Nature Walk
The weather looked like it would rain, so my mom and I headed out for a walk this morning. We were approached by a loose barking dog (grr) and saw lots of flowers. And made it back just before the afternoon drizzle started.
Black Magic Lunch
Barbara and Phil brought the girls a cookbook from their library sale. Last night, Camille planned a menu and shopping list based on the recipes in The Little Witch’s Black Magic Cookbook by Linda Glovach. Phil took the girls to the store this morning for all the necessary ingredients, then they went to work preparing
Arts in the Park
Yesterday we went down to the Arts in the Park festival. It was nice to see that gas prices did not keep the crowds away. There were lots of people there and more artists than ever! Unfortunately, it appeared that the only people making money were those who were selling food. I hope that wasn’t
Memorial Day Parade
Today was our big Pine Lake Memorial Day Parade/Cookout/Opening of the Lake/Ice Cream Social! It was the first that we’ve ever been to, and it was exactly as I imagined. Everyone came together for a great day, but we still managed to do it in Pine Lake style, with everyone choosing their own parade route.
How Embarrassing is that?
While Chloe was in her gymnastics class today, like all weeks, I sat on the floor next to the water fountain because that’s where the outlet is. I always bring my computer and get a whole lot of work done during the hour that Chloe and Camille are both busy. They’ve been doing a lot
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
I admit, this was a favorite game of mine as a kid. I think that the newer version have lost some of the “originality”. If it doesn’t use a Fodor’s, then it is no good for us. Anyway, Rob, the girls, my parents and I are all over the globe these days, and I am
