photo friday: sirius/xm in NYC
As with our past few trips to NYC for Kindiefest, this latest trip also included a long evening of seriously great kindie music at my happy place — well, not my true happy place, as that’s XM in DC, but a good second to it.
photo friday: central park
While we’ve been to Central Park in NYC before, this past trip to NYC we went twice more with a specific goal in mind: Find a couple of the locations where Doctor Who was filmed. And we actually were quite successful! The kids enjoyed visiting Strawberry Fields and strolling through the park, once on a

So much, so much to see in Chinatown and Little Italy. I didn’t even come close to capturing a fraction of a percentage of it all!
gooney bird: scavenger hunt fun
Scavenger Hunt Craziness! We worked our way through Chinatown and Little Italy thanks to the help of Stray Boots. Then, after lunch in Little Italy and a stop to watch people playing handball, we braved the crowds at the Hester Street Fair before our LES Tenement Museum tour. After some crazy “Weekend Planned Service Changes”
gooney bird: kindiefest and transportation explorations
What a day! Bagels and Kindiefest in Brooklyn in the morning. Then off to trek all over NYC. A subway ride to an abandoned subway station. Pizza and Dylan’s Candy Bar. Then a tram ride over to Roosevelt Island. A soft pretzel and the Staten Island Ferry. And then BACK to Kindiefest!! What a day!
gooney bird: exploring central park and beyond
After the morning’s adventure of winging his way to NYC, Gooney Bird tackled NYC! After looking for long lost relatives in the subway stop for the Museum of Natural History, he grabbed a snack at the Shake Shack. Yum. A stroll by The Dakota and through Strawberry Fields and then through more of Central Park
gooney bird: heading to nyc
Just like last year at this time, we are headed on our way to Brooklyn, this time for our SIXTH Kindiefest! And Gooney Bird came with us once again. He likes to mostly hang out in the pack, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the big city, but is always willing to jump
photo friday: public spaces in NYC
Back in April when Camille and I were in NYC, two places high on Camille’s wish list were the NY Public Library and Grand Central Station. So after we disembarked from our Circle Line cruise, we walked across town to Bryant Park where we rested a bit and then went into the library. I wasn’t

While Camille and I were in NYC a few months ago, we needed to find somehting we could do Monday morning with our backpacks. I had been trying to get the girls to take a Circle Line cruise for years, and I decided that would work well. We walked down to the pier; when we
photo friday: the high line
In my huge “notes” document, I keep a list of things I want to see, organized by city. Whenever I come across something interesting, I jot it down. NYC’s High Line had been added to the list about 4 times in the past couple of years, so I knew it had to be the top

A couple *months* ago, while Camille and I were in NYC for Kindiefest, we were honored to be invited up to the Sirius Fishbowl for a Kids Place Live Special Live Concert. A number of our favorite artists came together in one place to collaborate on each other’s songs. It was a wonderful time for
photo friday: The Met
Towards the top of our “things to do” list for our long weekend in New York was visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Alas, the thing I wanted to see most, I couldn’t. The rooftop gallery was still closed for winter, despite it being the end of April. So, so disappointing. But Camille and I

It was a Wednesday night that we arrived home from my sister’s wedding in the Bahamas. Thursday morning saw Camille and I packing our backpacks to head up to NYC.
