Day 21 brought us out of Las Vegas and into the land of Utah’s National Parks. We headed up to Zion, but we were all so tired from the late Las Vegas night that we got no more than a quick overview….

Day 20 of our out west trip brought us from just outside Yosemite, through the desert, over the Hoover Dam and onto the strip in Las Vegas.

On Day 17 of our big trip out west, we drove up to the top of Mount Diablo. We had the campground almost to ourselves — four other humans and a few raccoons were there.

Day 15 of the out west trip brought us up the coast from Morro Bay to Capitola via Monterey and the aquarium.

On Day 13 of our road trip, we stopped at a Route 66 diner in Kingman, AZ. The girls had root beer floats and grilled cheese sandwiches.

On Day 12 of our trip out west, we spent the entire day at the Grand Canyon and didn’t start the car even once!

At White Sands today, we rented a sled so the girls could go sledding on the dunes. The wind was whipping sand into our faces, so the girls decided that they really needed their goggles …
valley of fires – 27 may 2011
We spent the night at Valley of Fires, a campground in the middle of a lava flow in New Mexico … Chloe loved climbing around on all the lava rocks!
carlsbad caverns – 26 may 2011
Day 5 of our “Out West Trip” included visiting the Living Desert Zoo and Carlsbad Caverns.

As we headed west from Georgetown, we stopped at three more “Roadside America” sights. The first was the only one that was really cool — this T-rex made from car parts!! I’d love to see it al lit up at night sometime.
