photo friday: white house tour
Back when I was a kid, taking a tour of the White House was no more complicated than taking a tour of any other historic site. These days, planning ahead and being flexible are a must for a tour. Six months to 21-days before your trip (earlier is always better as tours fill up) you

Barbara made a coffee cake for breakfast, then some of us went for a short hike around back. Both Camille and Chloe are feeling a bit under the weather, poor girls.

Camille was feeling sick, but we managed to clean up and pack up and get to the cabin for our New Years’ Eve celebration.

Camille spent the day in recovery mode, sleeping and resting. Chloe went off to skate and ride the new streetcar with friends. Rob went to Alabama to kayak. I spent the day holding down the fort, organizing and preparing to head out of town.

The big adventure for today was Camille having all four of her wisdom teeth removed. Phil and Barbara stopped by on their way to the cabin; Phelix was practically doing backflips when they arrived.

A day where everyone went their own way, then we came together and had kale chips and scalloped potatoes for dinner.

Rob worked on his electronics project. Camille worked on her sophomore project, sewing. Chloe worked on getting her hair colored – it didn’t work. I made dinner for seven people – not everyone got plenty since I had thought I was cooking for four. After dinner, I took five teens to go see the new

After extended morning chores, the girls had time to play on the Xbox before Rob took them to Six Flags for the afternoon. I had time to color and draw as well as watch old movies.
photo friday: washington monument
Despite our quite numerous extended trips up to DC, especially the year that Rob had an apartment there, we never made it to the Washington Monument. To correct this neglectfulness, as soon as I arranged to hopefully have a White House tour, I booked tickets at the Washington Monument. And not a moment too soon.

While it would be nice to have a real fireplace, our apartment living doesn’t allow for one. So when I feel the need for one, I settle for the virtual one.

Christmas Eve. Varied projects around the house, lots of movies to watch. In the evening, we drank egg nog and opened the stack of holiday cards that we had put aside.

Rainy day jigsaw puzzles … a perfect start to our break. A broken RedBox, fruity booty and then the Festivus meal and cake.

For the first time ever, we managed to finish a puzzle without losing a single piece! Rob, Camille and I then went to see Big Hero 6 – Chloe had already seen it … so she stayed home.

Camille and I baked our now traditional yule log for the solstice before the whole family headed out to the incredibly funny and brilliant “A Broadway Christmas Carol” at OnStage Atlanta.

First day of break means it’s time to clean the girls’ room. I hope that it can get done in just a couple days and not stretch out over a week!

Went out early to take the pup to doggie daycare and managed to come across this lovely scene.

Although we spent the vast majority of our time on our short September break trip to Universal at Diagon Alley and our Cabana Bay Resort Hotel, we did visit the rest of the two Universal theme parks.
