letters about literature.
A surprise award! Camille submitted her “Letter about Literature” independently (as opposed to the other winners who had their essays submitted via their schools) and won third prize in her age category. While the award is a statewide award, the ceremony was here in Downtown decatur at our library, and the prize was a gift
succulent.
Camille’s latest science experiment is quite lovely.
parent of an adult!
The day has come. My eldest child is no longer a “child” but an adult. Of course, she’s still in high school and lives at home. We’re still looking at 4.5 years or more of supporting her, so she’s still a dependent. But she’s an adult. She can vote. She can get a tattoo. I’m
she’s sixteen!
Each and every year, it is always “It’s so hard to believe how old she is!” But sixteen seems to be a special milestone. “Sweet Sixteen” is one of those special ages. I’m a bit self-centered about her aging. Instead of remarking on her growth, I worry about myself. Not about how old I’m getting,
creative writing award for camille
Camille’s first year of school is almost at a close. While she has faced challenges in moving from homeschooling to public schooling, she’s managed to find her way and learn. Not only has she been successful in her classes, she’s been able to thrive! Last night, she was invited to the SGA Awards Ceremony, where
14 years gone in the blink of an eye
Can you believe it? I sure can’t. Camille is now FOURTEEN. So cliche, but it really does seem like yesterday that she was born. Happy birthday to my sweet girl, and happy birthday a few days late to her lovely friend Claire whom I am honored to have watched grow up from a toddler into

The girls and I came to Texas this week to help my parents start going through years of accumulated belongs. Furniture that has been in the family for generations. Lots of books. And photos, lots of photos! In one closet we found lots of old dresses. From my great-grandmother, from my mom and from me.

Camille had a down day today. She did go to an author talk at Little Shop that inspired her a bit, but most of the day she stayed around the house working on her various projects.

Our trip to JFK from Manhattan went so smoothly that we had over an hour to kill after we got through security. Camille and I returned to the restaurant we ate at last year on our way home from Kindiefest. We enjoyed the downtime immensely.

Camille takes charge
A little less than a year and a half ago, Camille picked up knitting needles for the very first time. Little did I know that she would become not only the owner of an Etsy store (Camboodle) but also, from what I’ve seen, the youngest attendee at STITCHES South by at least fifteen or twenty

camille – 5 apr 2011
Camille has been studying hard this week despite me being under the weather. I love how self-motivated she can be … though we have been having issues with her doing a little too much websurfing — on Ravelry of all places …

Camille’s new “Spin Off” magazine came this weekend, and she celebrated by spinning strips of tissue paper using her drop spindle.
