egg – 19 jan 2011
As part of my “birthday missions” from Absolutely Mindy, I had to carry around an egg for the rest of the day. Chloe decorated it all up for me using googly eyes.
goodbye
I can’t remember ever feeling like this. Usually, by January 6th I am more than ready to be done with Christmas and to get rid of the tree and pack away all of the Christmas decorations, but this year, this year I am just not ready for it! The tree is gone, and I miss
our house – 6 jan 2011
Jan 6 is our day to take down the Christmas decorations …. the tree is on the curb, the decorations all gathered in the laundry room to be boxed up and put away for another year. But I’m not ready to give up my white lights … they bring a smile and comfort to me
Christmas!
I can hardly believe that 2010 is coming to a close .. and that Christmas has already been celebrated. But, alas, it has. Our lights and tree will stay up until the 6th, and I couldn’t be happier! I’m not at all ready to take down all of our holiday decorations! As is our family
yet again, the days are getting longer
funny how it happens, that. Every year, just like last year, the sun does rise after the longest night. And, like last year, I went down to the lake to welcome its return. I’m looking forward to the days getting longer once again, and I’m going to make the most of the days.
Photo Friday: Over the River and Through the Woods
As we’ve done for the past 10+ years, we headed up to Blue Ridge, Georgia, to my parents’ cabin for Thanksgiving. I do love getting out to the woods and taking long walks along the (sort of) country lanes down to and along the river. Camille came with me on many of my walks, and
Christmas in Pine Lake
Traditionally, the first Saturday in December is the big Holiday celebration day in Pine Lake. In 2007, 2008 and 2009, we loved being here in Pine Lake for all the fun. This year, we were again active participants in the holiday cheer! At the pancake breakfast in the morning, Chloe sat on Santa’s lap and
Light Up Blue Ridge
The finale of our Thanksgiving celebrations last weekend was “Light Up Blue Ridge”. Each year, the celebration has grown and grown. I suppose there is no surprise there. That’s what happens. My mom went down early to practice with the tubas. When the rest of us arrived, we had to park in the new auxiliary
Thanksgiving Turkey
We’re always hearing about the “Tofuturkey” as the vegetarian-alternative, but for the carb-heads that we are, this Turkey has become an annual tradition at the cabin. This year, Camille baked the main bread loaf — delicious (but the pot that comes out of the oven with the loaf in it — well, the handle is
Halloween, so last week
Oh, my. It has been almost a week since Candy Central, and I still have yet to post about it. I honestly don’t have much to say. For the past few years, costumes have been entirely up to the girls. I try to help with ideas or acquisitions, but really, it is all them. Good
sept 27 – the first day of the “holiday season”
The rule in our house is that Halloween decorations don’t come out until *after* Camille’s birthday. While we do have some “fall” decor, I insist on ignoring the fact that fall starts four days before her birthday…it’s just easier that way — plus it is way too hot here in GA to think aout fall
Happy Birthday, Camille!
As far as planning went, I did not a single thing. But, nonetheless, I believe Camille had a very awesome birthday! Time with her cousins, a fun concert, birthday cake, and even a couple of presents from her cousins…
special celebrations
As part of our 101 things project, we are taking the time to make sure we celebrate at least one “other” holiday a month. Last month, we celebrated Harry Potter’s (30th) Birthday. In August, we celebrate the fourth anniversary of our kids’ music blog/radio station Gooney Bird Kids. Not only did we replay the first
Harry Potter’s Birthday
Happy Birthday, Harry Poter! Five years ago, we had a huge party for Harry Potter’s birthday. It was a blast! Tons of Harry Potter food, butterbeer, potions making, Quidditch in the pool and lots, lots more. While that would be fun to do again, we had a much smaller scale party at the cabin this
pine lake memorial day
Despite the dire forecast, the stormy weather held off, and we had a wonderful Saturday of festivities and remembrances with our Pine Lake neighbors. We gathered at the clubhouse just before noon to decorate our cars, bikes, wagons, strollers, scooters. A number of elected officials and campaigning folks turned out. After some remarks from our
leftover st. patty’s cabbage
I am not a huge fan of cabbage. A little cole slaw here and there is fine, but, other than that, I can take it or leave it. Chloe, on the other hand, can devour shredded raw cabbage when in the right mood. She’s our rabbit. My mom had bought a head of red (why,
spring-y food
Chloe decided that she wanted a spring dinner to celebrate the coming of spring. i had a hard time coming up with a plan. Lettuce? Eggs? But then Barbara suggested foo with spring in the name, such as spring rolls and spring mix. but what to go with that? Phil had the brilliant idea of
more than green food coloring
chloe woke up Wednesday morning and decided to add green food coloring to the milk in her morning cereal. last year, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by adding green food coloring to eggs. Somehow neither of those celebratory meals quite hit that “Irish” spot. Wednesday afternoon we headed up to the cabin to spend a
happy birthday to me!
yesterday was my 39th (there I said it) birthday. That gives me one year until the milestone birthday of 40. Rob and the girls sang Happy Birthday to me and ate cake for me. My parents called and also sang. (Why all this singing? Why not something more interesting?) Mindy asked if I had completed
holiday letters
Instead of randomly opening holiday cards as they trickle in between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day, we have made a tradition of stacking the envelopes in a special place and then opening the whole pile as a family activity on Christmas Eve. It’s a fun time and a way to help temper the Christmas Eve energy
