begin again.
After months of turmoil, things in our house (as opposed to the larger world) seem to be settling down into a bit of a routine. I find myself with time on my hands. Since freeing up some time is a huge piece of my multi-year Happiness Project, I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am. Happily
walk in the woods.
It’s been too long. FAR too long. But today the to do list was blissfully short. The girl was in a good mood. The weather was perfect (41 and sunny). My knee didn’t hurt. So off we went. Chloe, Phelix, and I. I forced them into a small detour; I am quite ignorant of the
arabia again.
A cool morning. Ahead at work. A holiday in France. Time to not only go to Arabia, but explore a new trail without worrying about how long we’d be out. Phelix and I managed to make wrong turns a few times and lost the trail, but we backtracked and found it again. The problem with
happiness project monthly breakdown: exercise (aug)
August is the “Exercise” month in my Happiness Project. In 2014 and 2015, I vowed to do more exercise. And over the years, I started to walk more and hike more. Finally last October, I joined a gym in order to get more weight training. I keep track daily of how much exercise I get,
atlanta: arabia mountain
On Thursday, Phelix and I headed out to his happy place, Arabia. I didn’t expect it to be as dry as it was – even Phelix’s creek was an empty creek bed. But what I really didn’t expect was the fall flowers! Yellow daisies EVERYWHERE!
time for a change.
As much as Phelix loves his happy place (Phelix’s Glade) and I love to take him there, I realized that it is time for us to add more places to our hiking roster. While it is *easy* to go to the same place over and over and not have to think about what we’ll encounter
baby steps.
Leave it to me to choose the coldest day so far this winter to go on my first “long walk”. Part of my Energy and Empowerment year is to go on a weekly long walk. Sometimes in the woods, sometimes not. Sometimes with Phelix, sometimes not. To make it easy on myself, I decided that
gymnastics: thing of the past?
Another kid milestone this week… Our last day of gymnastics. For almost eight years now, Chloe has been going to the same gym. She’s progressed from going 1 hour a week to 9 hours a week, from a tumbling class for toddlers, to competitive gymnastics. She grown immensely in her skill, stamina, strength. But next
gymnastics meets
This year, as last year, Chloe’s meets are in the first few months of the year from January to April (next year they will probably be in the fall). While we have a basic calendar of when her meets will be, we only know which weekend. We don’t know until about a week before whether
meeting gabby douglas
What a zoo it was at the gymnastics center when Chloe and I arrived. I dropped her off at the blocked driveway, then went to park the car much further down the street. By the time I got back, the gym was crowded with kids and parents awaiting the arrival of Gabby Douglas. Chloe had
gymnastics meet!
This past weekend, Chloe ahd her very first gymnastics meet! And, luckily for her, it was at her gym, so she didn’t have far to go or use equipment that she’s not used to. While I arrived at the gym around 7am, Chloe didn’t need to be there until after 10. Her coaches performed magic
HoopJam in Decatur
Now that the weather is starting to cool off a little, I hope that we can start getting out of the house after dinner a few times a week. Tonight after dinner, we headed out to HoopJam on the square. Chloe loved hooping and was very much in her element.
instagram: sunday morning on arabia mountain
Today, not only did the girls and I get in a nice hike at Arabia Mountain, but Camille also helped me straighten out my Instagram issues. Hopefully, I’ll start using it a little more now!!
chloe’s new shoes
This weekend, the girls and I participated in the Run with the Dogs 5K and much to my (and her) surprise, my Chloe won third prize in her age group. No training, ran in jeans, walked with me for the first half mile, but she still managed to rock! (I have no idea how *I*
run with the dogs 5K
The girls didn’t want to do it. They didn’t want to get up early on a Saturday. They didn’t want to go out in the cold. (Cold? It was in the mid-50s at 8am!) They really didn’t want to walk 3 miles. But, I got them out the door and over to Decatur High School
new outfit – 1 sep 2011
Chloe has always admired the gymnastics outfits for sale at the gym. Back when she was at the gym one hour a week, I refused to buy her one of these expensive outfits, but told her she was free to spend her own money on one. But now that she’s on the training team and
Nervous, Anxious, Happy
Chloe has been a ball of uncontainable energy for the past couple of days … A few weeks ago, she was invited to tryout for the gymnastics team. Or pre-team. Or training team. Obviously, I have no idea what any of this means. Since I was sitting on the floor at the gymnastics center when
exercise – my way ….
The past year and a half, I’ve had a goal of geting in 10K steps a day. Working from home doing a sedentary job gives me little reason to move unless I make a point of it. I wear a little pedometer (meet FitBit) in order to remind myself of how little I’ve walked each
fencing – 24 feb 2011
Chloe loves her fencing class on Thursdays …
snow boating – 11 jan 2011
School (Dekalb County, Georgia Tech and our own homeschool) was cancelled again today. The girls headed out to play in the snow, then came in to pack for our trip. Rob took the kayak out on the slopes. It seems Rob took some video of Chloe sledding. And I “borrowed” this photo from our very
