college search: local schools
Back in February, Camille and I took a trip up to North and South Carolina to tour four colleges. When we returned to Decatur, we took one more official tour over the break. Though Agnes Scott College is a little too close to home (5 blocks away and across the street from Camille’s high school),
back to school.
After an action-packed summer, the girls started back-to-school yesterday. For the first time ever, the girls are in the same school and Chloe has teachers that had Camille as a student. I think in some ways, the girls are happy to get back to their routines, friends, and studies. As for me, I’m hoping the
summer projects.
Each year when summer approaches, I put together a list of all the projects I want to accomplish while school is out and activities are slower. And I always over-estimate the time that we will have to accomplish it all. “I’m not really traveling this summer; I’ll have lots of time!” While the house is

Back in February, Camille and I continued her college search by visiting four schools in North Carolina and South Carolina. The trip was rife with challenges from the start, and the snow and ice didn’t help. Snowed out of this. Snowed out of that. Delays and cancellations. Ice covered roads. Slips and falls. But we
knitting: project 3 complete!
It has been a couple of months since I finished my second hat. Why did it take me so long to finish the third hat? Oh well, I’m not knitting to be speedy but to have a way to relax.
create: an update on 2016.
My theme for 2016 is CREATE. I haven’t quite made as much progress as I would have liked, but I am making progress…. For photography, I have taken a few classes, purchased a new lens, and was doing well at taking more interesting photos until I took my break (after spring break). For cooking, I’ve

DONE! The first pass of research, that is. We now have 133 colleges on our spreadsheet of possible choices. Where to go from here? I’m not worried, though I think the number of choices might be overwhelming for the other people involved in the process. We can quickly come up with a “serious” list. And
college search: nc/sc schools
Camille and I took the first half of February break to visit a handful of schools in North and South Carolina. None were high on her list (I don’t know if very many are high on her list yet), but I thought we could get started with some tours and learn more about what she
book report – 29 mar 2016
With all my hiking and little bit of traveling, I have not had many moments to read anything beyond my magazines. When we get back from spring break and the temperatures start to climb, I suspect I will have much more time for reading…. I vowed not to push through books I am not enjoying
knitting: project 2 complete!
A few weeks ago I finished my first knitting project of this year, and just yesterday I finished my second one! It is another hat, just like the other one, but much, much better. Many fewer mistakes. And using smaller needles for the brim really helped. I guess next week I have to go back

college search: georgia schools
while we had looked at schools in NYC and Florida, we hadn’t yet looked at many schools here in Georgia – Camille had done a day at a Georgia Tech program – but no real investigations. One Saturday in February, Camille had a GHP interview in Locust Grove. Being halfway to Macon, we decided to
book report – 15 mar 2016
This week, I finished Where by Kit Reed. What a bizarre book. I don’t even know if I liked it or not. I added Afoot & Afield Atlanta: A Comprehensive Hiking Guide by Marcus Woolf to my list. I probably won’t “read” it, but just see how he information compares to my other Atlanta hiking
college search: nyc schools
In planning our trip to NYC in January, we had a number of goals in mind. Seeing Hamilton. Attending the kindie Hootenany. And visiting colleges. Planning is a challenge. Different schools give tours at different times. Go here then there? Or the other way around? And, unfortunately, most of the schools we wanted to see
book report – 8 mar 2016
I had forgotten to add the book the girls got me for my birthday to my pile, but I’m now halfway through it! This week while in Memphis, I finished a popular title Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. A great book. Again, reminds me to live my life. And not assume anything about other
knitting: project 1 complete!
A few weeks ago I stopped by the knitting store for my first official lesson. After a lot of mistakes, some help from Camille, and a wonky way to finish the top, my first project, my first hat is now complete! I went back to Needle Nook this week and decided that I want to
book report: 1 mar 2016
Three new books from the library this week! I was sick on Sunday and actually managed to get through a little of my backlog too. This week, I finished reading some easy reads: The Marseille Caper by Peter Mayle The Corsican Caper by Peter Mayle The Red Notebook by Antoine Laurain I will continue to
college search: florida schools
While we were in Florida between Christmas and New Years, we decided to drive through some campuses on our way home just to start getting a feel for what Camille likes and dislikes about where a campus is and how it is laid out. Perhaps that sounds a little superficial, but as one of her
book report: 23 feb 2016
Yet again, no new books this week still dealing with a large pile from three weeks ago. When will I get the chance to read again? I’ve been putting on lots and lots of miles in the car this week, looking at colleges. Not much time for reading. We did listed to a few podcasts,

Family time. With a super-busy middle schooler and a high schooler who is balancing IB, college search, and work, it is hard to find time for family time. My goal is that every weekend, we do one interesting thing as a family. It isn’t easy, but I do try. Today we chose to visit Emory
