Homeschooling in our house (or not)
“What grade are you in?” “Where do you go to school?” By now, my girls are fairly comfortable with their responses to these not-easy-to-answer-as-the-questioner-assumes questions. “I’m homeschooled!” But “homeschooled”? While it is probably not true (or maybe it is), I tend to think that we are elsewhere at least as often as we are at
handwork class
As we approach June, the girls are finishing up all their classes for this academic year. Today marked the end of a year of handwork class. While we are not Waldorf inspired homeschoolers, we were delighted to find a homeschool handwork class being offered right in our little hamlet! Both girls have worked through a
like an old friend
being home for three weeks in a row has its advantages. Despite it being the holiday season, when we have twice as much to accomplish, I’ve been able to keep up with all the tasks and even get ahead a bit! I had promised the girls that when things were under control, we would start
trip down the Nile
yesterday, the girls and I headed over to the Carlos Museum at Emory. Even after having lived so close to Emory and driven through it often for so many years, I think this was my very first time to actually step foot on the campus! Camille had been to the Carlos before with friends. When

books!
what do you read in your free (ha ha) time? Has it changed through the years? when I finished my thesis, I read nothing but absolute fluff (note that for me absolute fluff is Fern Michaels and similar). As I got further away from needing to give my brain a break, I also ended up
last day of classes
this session of homeschool classes, camille took Latin (her fifth year!) and fencing (her first time) and chloe took robotics and greek drama. yesterday was the last day of thursday classes. Chloe’s drama class demonstrated for the parents some of the skits that they had worked on over the past ten weeks. they enjoyed the
it’s done!
as i wrote last week, I have been working on a scarf for a couple of years now. And, at long last, I have finally cast-off! It’s done! Maybe the next one won’t take quite so long…. nor be quite so long….

while in Japan last year, we stopped in a huge bookstore in Kyoto. Camille had been interested in manga for a while, and I figured I might as well test the waters myself. I picked up two different books. One was the manga version Tale of Genji, a classic tale written in 1023AD. The other
handwork
through a few strange coincidences, yesterday I learned that there is a handwork class for homeschoolers being offered right here in our little hamlet. Mostly, it is Waldorf homeschoolers attending the class, but both of my girls have started knitting projects, and I find that I just am not experienced enough to help them when

homeschooling again
That was a long break away from this blog!! In the meantime, we have posted Episode #6 of gbkZoo, interviewed Princess Katie and Racer Steve for our “Giving Back Kids: KindieCares” segment on our radio blog Gooney Bird Kids, and cleaned/rearranged many rooms in the house. Now we are settling into a homeschooling routine again.
