What was the last thing you learned how to do?
Besides learning everyday new ways of being, how to play some games on the Wii, the various new features on various software applications, etc., I think the think the last really new thing that I have learned to do is to knit. I’m not very good and I’m very slow, but my technique is improving
New Year’s Resolutions
(Repost from last year New Year’s Resolutions. However, the 101st item is to stick with it the list this time. I’ve edited my list from last year to make it a little more reasonable.) Made your resolution yet? No? Then how about this? 101 Things in 1001 Days: The Mission:Complete 101 preset tasks in a
New Year’s Eve
The cabin is our New Years’ Eve gathering spot. Phil, Barbara, Rob, Camille, Chloe and I gather to play outdoors and in as well as have a second Christmas. This year we are joined by the hissing cousins: our kity Gazoo and Suze’s cats (who live with Phil and Barbara) Q-Tip and Sadie. After our
Geocaching
During this short break, Rob decided to work on ripping huge stacks of CDs on his computer, so he can listen to a greater variety of his music than he has in a long time. I worked on creating the 2009 version of our family website and catching up on some other journaling tasks. I
What was the biggest adventure of your past year?
Our biggest family adventure was our trip to Japan in the early summer. The customs, food and language are so very different from our own that it took patience and attention to find our way around and see the sights. We had some difficulties with the foreigness, unfortunately. Chloe had a fever and I couldn’t
Happy Christmas All!
Monday the girls and I flew back from DC. While the airport was fire marshall scary, checking in and going through security was easy-peasy. We boarded on time and were set to go, but the plane wasn’t. The navigation system wasn’t responding to being rebooted, so we had to get off the plane and wait
NYC at Christmas
A few weeks ago, I thought it might be nice to arrange a day trip to NYC from Washington for me and the girls to go see the tree, windows and lights. I then realized that Dan Zanes would be having a Holiday House Party in NYC. Rob then decided he would like to join
Life in the City + National Archives
On Wednesday, the friend we had planning to meet for breakfast canceled on us, so I posted the need for a museum on my Facebook. Our canceling friend’s coworker emailed me with an idea for an outing, so we decided to try it! After taking care of domestic and work tasks, we headed out across
The Nutcracker
At Christmastime in the past, Rob has taken Camille, then both girls to go see The Nutcracker at the Atlanta Ballet. This year, I read an article in The Washington Post about The Nutcracker at the Kennedy Center and thought that sounded like lots of fun! Rob found out that The Nutcracker there was sold
National Museum of American History
After I worked some and caught up some on my other pursuits, the girls and I headed out to go to the National Museum of American History. Our plan was to visit the exhibit on American Wars, to supplement what Camille has been doing in history and then visit the transportation exhibit. But, I knew
Winter in DC
Even after our very late night last night, the girls and I were up early, in the car and on our way before 6am. We dropped the car at the car place, took the bus and checked in. We mailed our Netflix movie and a check at the post office and went through security. The
SteveSongs Came to Atlanta!
I think I first heard of SteveSongs when I picked up one of his CDs on the “used” table at the library. That was years ago! We listened a bit, but were still held by gravity on Ralph’s World and not ready to begin our adventure yet. I think the next we hear Steve was
Homeschool Day at the History Center
I’ve been feeling quite unhappy lately about how little we’ve been getting out and about in Atlanta lately. Especially in these economic hard times, I think that we should be doing all we can to support the arts, music and museum in Atlanta, but I’m having a hard time balancing everything. We used to go
Dirty Sock Funtime Band
Wow, how has a whole week gone by since we went to the concert at the Ferst Center! Again, Rob found a concert that I had not heard of. I think I’m losing my touch. He forwarded me a mail of the upcoming concerts at Georgia Tech, which included this one featureing The Dirty Sock
It Takes A Village
The first Saturday of December in Pine Lake is one of the many reasons why I love this place so much. As with every first Saturday, a dedicated team of volunteers wakes early and gets the coffee on and grills heating down at the beach house. At 8:30 the doors open and neighbors start straggling
Buy Nothing Day Thoughts
On so-called Black Friday, I celebrate a tradition of Buying Nothing. I don’t know when this holiday started, nor when I started. Rob said that I have done it as long as he can remember, but I’m not sure. In fact, I don’t really like the absoluteness of the day, nor the need to feel
Thanksgiving
Even with Chloe’s emergency trip to get stitches, we had a mostly relaxing Thanksgiving. The four of us, plus my mom, dad and sister (and a cat and dog) spent the long weekend at the cabin. We went outside when the weather was nice and did things inside when the weather wasn’t as nice. For
Circus Career On Hold
Wii Fit came into our live a couple of weeks ago, and the kids can’t get enough of it. Camille loves the step aerobics and hula hooping games. Chloe loves ski jumping. But both of them love the tightrope walking. Yesterday, Chloe decided to take this virtual skill and test it out in reality. She
Creative Works
Chloe has been wandering around today wanting to do projects. She wants to make puppets, clothes for the cat, cities with blocks, stories in her imagination. I have lots of dreams of being creative, but I’m really an organizer. I’m not saying that people can’t be both, but for me, I tend to organize and
Chloe’s Big Adventure
On Monday, Camille and I dropped Chloe and Barbara off at the airport. Chloe fit all her clothes, her pencils and DS in her new backpack on wheels. She is quite the seasoned traveler, and it shows. She and Barbara headed off through security and passed time in the Admirals Club (must be nice). She
