sunrise – 16 jan 2011
I love, love watching the sunrise at the beach! Amazing to watch the sky change every second…
chloe – 15 jan 2011
Chloe spent the entire day at the pool. I have the sunburnt face to prove it. At first she was bored, but then, she made friend after friend, kids and adults alike. I have no idea how she does it!
camille – 14 jan 2011
Once again, I couldn’t get the girls to a museum. It was pool, beach and (ugh) tv all day. Thankfully, mostly it was beach and pool. I even got to read half of my book while at the pool! I never want to leave. Days of work them beach and pool are my heart’s desire.
sea life
When swimming at the beach, sea life tends to make me a little nervous. Crabs nipping at my toes, little fish who like to nibble at me, jellyfish ready to sting. But what swam up to Camille today was something I’d never have expected — manatees!! Unfortunately, she was paying attention to jumping in the
Photo Friday: Poolside in Fort Lauderdale
We managed to escape the winter craziness in Atlanta (school cancelled for FIVE days in a row) and find ourselves a in what seems like the only warm spot left, southeast Florida. The girls and I are tag-a-longs on a business trip of Rob’s here at the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale. On our own travels,
the ritz – 13 jan 2011
We spent the day working, at the pool, on the beach and exploring the strip near the hotel. When the wind picked up in the afternoon, it was quite chilly, but that didn’t stop Chloe from getting in the (heated) pool.

the hardest part of the journey?
Getting to the airport. Atlanta was shut down today for a third day in a row. Our street is a sheet of ice. Thinking ahead, we decided to move the car up to the top of the hill mid-afternoon yesterday when the ice was slightly slushy. So, this morning, we headed out, dragging our suitcases
ocean view – 12 jan 2011
I had resigned myself to the fact that we would likely not be getting a room with an ocean view. I had convinced myself that an intrracoastal view would be quite interesting and good enough. So, my jaw dropped when the bellman opened the door to the room and I could see off over the
snow boating – 11 jan 2011
School (Dekalb County, Georgia Tech and our own homeschool) was cancelled again today. The girls headed out to play in the snow, then came in to pack for our trip. Rob took the kayak out on the slopes. It seems Rob took some video of Chloe sledding. And I “borrowed” this photo from our very
Travel Tuesday: Weekly Favorites
Snowed in for the second day in a row and getting a little concerned about our flight tomorrow — Between flight cancellations and road closures, I’m not sure we’ll be going anywhere! I love what I’ve been reading out there on the web, and I’d love to share my highlights with you. Here are some
snowy chloe – 10 jan 2011
Thanks goodness for all of the wonderful snowy weather clothes we purchased last year for our trip to Steamboat! Snowpants, long underwear, snow boots and warm, warm socks all came in quite handy today for a full day of sledding on our street!
Mondays are for Dreaming: Home!
So often am I dreaming of trips we have taken or trips I want to take, that I forget to live in the moment and cherish the sweet little hamlet we call home! As I had written in a previous Monday Dream (White Christmas), I was dreaming of snow. And snow we have. Not because
SNOW!
Even before the snow started last night, most metro area schools and businesses had been closed for today. Strange to see so many closings, yet dry, clear streets. But once the snow started to come down, it came down FAST! By ten-thirty, we were inflating rafting tubes in order to sled down our street. The
dumbledore – 9 jan 2011
On the days when I clean out the turtle’s cage, she gets to run around the house .. though she generally heads into the deepest corner of the kitchen. The freedom is overwhelming for her, I suppose.
tiles – 8 jan 2011
Chloe loves games; all kinds of games. Her new spelling abilities have opened up a whole new range of games to her. Though she still tries to get away with non-words often.
spring, please – 7 jan 2011
Not really. I don’t mind the chilly days very much. The days *are* getting longer, thankfully. And I am looking forward to six inches of snow this weekend. But I’m also on the lookout for signs of spring. I love those first blossoms after a drab winter.
goodbye
I can’t remember ever feeling like this. Usually, by January 6th I am more than ready to be done with Christmas and to get rid of the tree and pack away all of the Christmas decorations, but this year, this year I am just not ready for it! The tree is gone, and I miss
Photo Friday: Tellico River
Sunday evening, at my mom’s cabin in North Georgia, I turned on my work computer for the first time in a week. Just for the heck of it, I checked the 2011 holiday calendar. Just imagine my surprise and joy at finding out I had one more day off! Taking advantage of my reprieve, we
our house – 6 jan 2011
Jan 6 is our day to take down the Christmas decorations …. the tree is on the curb, the decorations all gathered in the laundry room to be boxed up and put away for another year. But I’m not ready to give up my white lights … they bring a smile and comfort to me
