lesson learned
The girls get a (virtual) weekly allowance. Allowance at our house is not tied to chores, though on rare occasions I have been known to fine the girls when certain rules have been broken, most notably CDs and DVDs not getting put away. I’ve considered fining for gum wrappers on the floor and apple cores
Seeing: Audubon Zoo
We woke on our last morning in New Orleans to a freezing, windy day. After I had worked a bit and had rescued the car from its garage, the girls and I checked out of the hotel and drove down St Charles to the Audubon Zoo (and they all ask’d for you.) The dramatic change
Seeing: Audubon Insectarium
The “Audubon Experience” package that we purchased in New Orleans included the Audubon Insectarium. I hadn’t planned o going (bugs?), but as it was part of the package and centrally located on Canal Street, I figured we might as well give it a try. We had a few free hours and the rain outside convinced

camboodle – 8 mar 2011
Last night, Camille and I set up her Camboodle Etsy store. And she’s already sold three pouches! She still has about eight more to list, but taking photos and writing descriptions is time-consuming, so she’s only adding about four a day right now. I am sure it will slow down soon, but boy this has
unexpected benefit
as I wrote the other day, I’ve decided to start using saved menus from the meal planning service I had signed up for a year or two ago. Something magical happened. As these menus have simple *recipes*, Camille has taken to cooking dinner! She’s been making the homemade pizzas (we rely on her — she
Travel Tuesday: Weekly Highlights for 8 Mar 2011
Been home these past few weeks, busy with projects at work and projects around the house. I haven’t been posting here much, but I love what I’ve been reading out there on the web, and I’d love to share my highlights with you. Here are some of my favorites from the week: Arrows Sent Forth:
Mondays are for Dreaming: Paris
How clichรฉ can you get? But yes, today I dream of Paris. It is hard to believe that a year and a half has passed since my last trip to the City of Light. As a child/teen, I visited Paris twice and thought I was the luckiest kid ever. Fresh out of grad school, I
camboodle – 7 mar 2011
Camille and I have been working out the details for months, and now she finally has an Etsy store, called Camboodle. So far, she’s put just a few pouches up there, but there’s more to come.
camboodle is here!
(Proud mama alert.) In the time it took me to complete a scarf (Hagrid-sized, however) with knit only (no purling here), Camille has managed to learn how to knit just about anything. In the eighteen months since she first picked up her needles, she’s made hats, socks, bags and more. She’s learned to wet felt,
circuits – 6 mar 2011
Rob tried to fix Chloe’s light saber, but it was a lost cause. Instead, he took out some of the electronics and showed her how it *should* work.
mission accomplished
last week was not such a great one. The girls had three days of ITBS testing, we spent hours getting new glasses for me (have I mentioned that I can now SEE?), and work was a little bit on the stressful side. I had hopes of getting away to go camping with Evie, but because
room of the month – 5 mar 2011
March is Chloe’s room. What a disaster it was! Thankfully, she was very helpful this time and didn’t disolve into an overwhelmed puddle of crying girl There are still some odds and ends that need to be tackled, but the room is clean and organized!
who has time for this?
Ugh. This morning attempted listen to XM streaming on my computer and found myself locked out of the account I’ve been happily using for years. Despite having other things I’d rather be doing, I did a little searching about my problem and found that anyone who had a password with “special characters” in it has

Gazoo loves to hang out and keep on eye what’s going on as the kids play in the living room …
Photo Friday: New Orleans Riverfront Park
On our first night and then our first morning in New Orleans we wandered along in Woldenberg Park, along the Mississippi between Canal Street and Cafe du Monde. On Sunday evening, the girls danced in the bandstand, Barbara geocached, I took photos…until the storm finally reached us. Monday, the girls and I walked along, enjoying
meal planning (again)
Once again, I’m frustrated by what we are eating, daily trips to the grocery store, last minute scramble to get dinner on the table. I wonder what it is about early spring that inspires me to work on improving our meal time habits? Last March, I wrote Food for Good Thoughts about how I was
chef camille – 3 mar 2011
Camille has branched out from baking and pizzas and has made us dinner two nights in a row now. Yum!
exercise – my way ….
The past year and a half, I’ve had a goal of geting in 10K steps a day. Working from home doing a sedentary job gives me little reason to move unless I make a point of it. I wear a little pedometer (meet FitBit) in order to remind myself of how little I’ve walked each
