knocked out
I had grand plans for this weekend. Room of the month for April (a weird set of smaller rooms) was going to get done. The monthly “family” newsletter I enjoy writing was going to be written and sent out. Some new recipes were going to be tested. Not a bit of it got done. Last

being authentic – step 2
my first step in “being authentic” was to give up saying that I don’t have time. I’m not ready to declare success on this yet, but I’m getting better at it. The next step is to stop doing things to try to impress or get a reaction from others. I do it FAR more than

The girls and I went to the Carlos Museum today for Camille’s “field trip”.., while they were there to see ancient things, I enjoyed seeing the current creations of the Tibetan monks who were there in person creating transient sculptures and mandalas.

Thinking more about the book I’m really, really digging … The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun by Gretchen Rubin. Despite trying to always give other people the benefit of the doubt, I find myself
Photo Friday: Austin’s Captiol 10K
Last weekend, Chloe and I flew to Austin to celebrate my mom’s birthday. While there, we visited the J. Lorraine Ghost Town and also went to the Austin American-Statesman Capital 10K. While the rest of the family participated in the race, Chloe and I took our time getting from starting line to finish line and

Between Chloe’s gymnastics and going for her bike ride, Camille managed to sneak in a little homeschooling.
Being authentic vs. Acting like the person you want to be
Are the goals of being authentic and acting like the person you want to be contradictory? Or are they the same? I’ve been reading The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun by Gretchen Rubin recently.

flat tire: gymnastics team
As should be incredibly obvious, I love to travel, revisiting old favorites and discovering new spots. But what happens when a traveling parent has a kid whose desire is to stay in one place? How do we compromise? Last week, Chloe tried out for the “training team” at her gymnastics center and was “awarded” a

As I was reminded on facebook today, I have no idea about these shows the kids watch. I called him dr. who instead of doctor who. oops.

The girls went to our pediatrician for their annual checkups. Dr. B was surprised to see us — it had been so long since she saw us last that she was sure we had moved away. As it goes, I can’t remember the last non-annual visit we made to the pediatrician other than the one

Leaving One Kid Behind
Generally when I travel, I either have both girls or no girls (though it is very rare for me to travel solo!). Out of curiosity on Thursday, I looked up fares to Austin for this weekend and was floored by the cheap tickets! Camille had an event at home that she had been wanting to

(If they haven’t already arrived, that is…) Strollers complete with DVD players and/or slots for your toddler’s iPad: I did a double take when I saw this at the starting line of today’s Capitol 10K. At first I was disgusted. Isn’t there plenty for a child in a jog stroller to see, especially in the
