Packing: Create a Master List
I admit, I inwardly smirked at the people who write about their packing lists; packing lists are for the weak! I had a system, developed over years of practice. But then, I tried it. And, despite believing that my “system” for getting us packed for a trip was efficient enough, I have now changed my
siam thai – 23 aug 2011
We went out for dinner in Decatur at Siam Thai — the girls loved the way the straws were decorated!
amy – 22 aug 2011
The girls are preparing from Dragon*Con by dyeing their hair. Here Chloe is sporting her red “Amy Pond” hair.
decisions, decisions
I’ve generally never had a difficult time making decisions. I get an idea, I run with it. I’m probably even slightly impulsive. I’ve never understood Chloe’s difficulty with making decisions. She can become stalled with indecision. She gets herself worked up, not knowing what to do, and ends up crying because she “just can’t decide”.
girls – 21 aug 2011
The girls and I did some “girl bonding” today and dyed our hair. The girls dyed their hair in preparation for their Dragon*Con costumes. I dyed mine in order to cover up the greys. So now my hair has been cut and dyed by children — and, well, looks it too. Oh well. It is
CSA: Four days later
My Happiness Project topic for August is Cooking. As I wrote last week, I’ve cleaned out the cabinets, organized the grains and spices and bought some new and replacement tools for the kitchen. I still have a few more things to buy — like a magnetic knife rack, but I’m on track to actually start
tomatoes – 20 aug 2011
These traffic-light tomatoes were part of our CSA share. I’ve made tomato sauce and salsa and also eaten them raw. Yum!
necklace – 19 aug 2011
Chloe made her new necklace all by herself; she’s been in a crafty mood lately!
Photo Friday: Gazoo
There is one member of our family who doesn’t like our frequent travels — our kitty, Gazoo. When we got home from our trip to Great Wolf Lodge this week, she wouldn’t let me out of her sight. This is an entry for Delicious Babyโs Photo Friday
chopping tomatoes – 18 aug 2011
Last night, we went to pick up our CSA basket from up the street. Today I was faced with the task of figuring out what to do with tons of tomatoes and okra…
crayons – 17 aug 2011
Chloe pulled out the “oil pastels” today to do a little art project…
happy cat – 16 aug 2011
Gazoo is quite happy to have us home again!
Attractions: MagiQuest
A video game escaped from the computer and landed in the hallways of the hotel. Kids cooperated and assisted while working to complete their individual quests. We discovered MagiQuest back in 2009 while on a trip to Myrtle Beach. While we didn’t play on that trip, Camille researched it when we got back home and knew
master magis – 15 aug 2011
The girls loved having MagiQuest right outside the door of our hotel room. Chloe was a little frustrated at one point, but ended up having a blast and helping out others who didn’t know what they were doing …
(home)school begins
… though not at home, of course. Last year, we headed out to Wilderness at the Smokies to start up our year of homeschooling. It got us out of the distractions and demands of home and into a “neutral” place. Again, this year, we decided to head out to a waterpark for the start of
great wolf – 14 aug 2011
Last year we visited Wilderness at the Smokies for our school year kickoff. This year, we kicked it up a notch and came to the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, NC. While I’m finding the waterpark to be less impressive (albeit CLEANER), the fact that there is MagiQuest in the hallways just outside our room
Can it be true?
Did we really manage to bring everything that we meant to bring? Since we seem to hit the road every week or two, the girls are responsible for packing their own clothes, diversions and homeschooling. I’ve come to accept that on each trip there will be at least one thing that will have been forgotten.
soup – 13 aug 2011
The theme of August’s Happiness Project is “cooking”. I’ve cleaned the kitchen, organized the spices and bought a few new supplies. Finally, it is time to try out new recipes! Not really low carb, but I made a corn soup from Vegetarian Times tonight!
doctor who lunch – 12 aug 2011
At Cost Plus/World Market, Camille found a can of instant custard, apparently a favorite of Doctor Who. The girls made “fish and chips” and custard for a special Doctor Who lunch.
Photo Friday: Visiting Friends
While I love to travel to new places to see interesting places and have new experiences, this past week we took a different kind of trip, a trip to visit old friends. No touristy or quirky destination on the schedule. Just time reconnecting with old friends. Of course, while we were there, we came up
