chloe’s room – 23 sep 2011
Chloe and I startled to tackle her room today. Amazingly, she’s excited to be getting rid of most of her stuff. She’s really excited to whittle down all her piles to something much more manageable!
new place – 22 sep 2011
Today, we met with the inspector at the condo. This was our first time back in since we’ve signed the contract. The girls had a great time trying to figure out where all the furniture and other things will go once we move in.
camille downsizing – 21 sep 2011
Camille spent a long time yesterday clearing out her bookshelves, dresser and closet in our “Mission Downsize”. I’m really impressed by how much she has decided is just no longer necessary. We will fit into the new, much smaller space …. At least I hope so!
Mission Downsize: Day 0
Downsize? What? As we’ve been slowly telling our friends, last weekend, while I was in Texas for the Austin City Limits Music Festival, we made an offer on a condo near the square in Decatur. After a couter-offer and some negotiation, I electronically signed (real estate has entered the 21st century!) the agreement to purchase
groceries – 20 sep 2011
After a long weekend of eating roadtrip and festival food, I was happy to get to the store and buy lots of produce today! More tomorrow, with the CSA pickup.
foggy drive – 19 sep 2011
Our drive home on Monday was not easy. We had fog, the monsoon like rains with zero-visibility across Mississippi. Also in Mississippi, I got two chips in the windshield, an hour apart. To top it off, I had a burrito at Taco Bell and was ill for the rest of the drive.
zilker beach – 18 sep 2011
The day was hot, but the girls tried to stay cool on Zilker Beach, playing in the sand. Chloe even brought a shovel along with her from home in order to be sure she’d have one to use.
google+ lounge – 17 sep 2011
When we arrived at ACL, we headed right for the Google+ Lounge. The girls hung out in the bean bag chairs and played in the photo booth.
waiting for sara bareilles – 16 sep 2011
The girls and I headed out to the first day of our fifth(!) Austin City Limits Music Festival today. As Texas has been so hot and dry, we were concerned about the weather, but it turned out to not be the hottest, driest or wettest ACL that we’ve been to. In fact, for the most
Photo Friday: Dragon*Con
Three weeks ago, we didn’t go out of town. But we traveled … to the alternate universe that is Dragon*Con. If you ever find yourself in Atlanta on Labor Day weekend, do not be surprised if you see stormtroopers, wizards and superheroes on the train. We headed downtown for the Saturday morning parade; the streets
foxes – 15 sep 2011
It seems like every time we visit Texas, we come face to face with wildlife that might otherwise be something we’d only see in a zoo — if we were lucky. Today I went into the kitchen to refill my coffee. Out the window, I saw the cats in the yard. No, the tails are
Road Trip: 14.5 hours in a car
For the fifth year in a row, we are on our way to Austin City Limits. Other than our trip to Texas on our Out West Trip this past May, we haven’t done the trip in a single day for years now. I like to break the trip into two days. We can leave after
how many licks – 14 sep 2011
Chloe spent an hour of our car trip yesterday determining that it took 1690 licks to get the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop.
thinking – 12 sept 2011
Chloe, in a pensive moment.
sorting – 11 sep 2011
As Chloe worked on putting together a Lego set last week, she grew frustrated with the unsorted legos. So she decided it was time to do something about our bulk boxes of Legos. I don’t know if this project will get completed, but I’m happy to have seen it start, at least!
baking – 10 sep 2011
Camille *loves* to bake. And she’s taken to that fancy new mixer we bought, too. Her cookies are too delicious to pass on.
samosas – 9 sep 2011
We are working hard to use up leftovers before they expire. Sometimes it can be a challenge … we have three or four containers of lentil daal in the fridge at the moment, so I had the idea of turning them into “samosas” for lunch today.
Photo Friday: Chicago Suburbs
Two weeks ago, the girls and I packed up Evie complete with in-van organ, and headed north to Chicago. While the trip was really just a “mission” involving delivering the organ to our friend Ralph (if you are in search of great family music, you should add Ralph’s World to your playlist!) We hadn’t planned
NBTS Party – 8 sep 2011
Chloe talks about wanting to try out school .. a lot. So much so that I’m trying to figure out how she can get the chance to “try it out”. But really, how many back-to-school parties feature couscous, scooters and kids running free with almost no boundaries? I wonder how long it will take for
this turtle is starting to come out of her shell
I don’t know what happened. I got lazy. I got complacent. I was happy to be living completely within my comfort zone. I got boring. I got bored. True, I do have to step outside my comfort zone when the girls want to try something new. And traveling often forces me to step outside of
