gazoo – 25 oct 2011
Gazoo doesn’t seem to be thrilled with the move. She simply seems resigned. She knows this is where she lives and gets food and attention. But she seems a bit bored, since she can no longer stalk the frogs and chipmunks. We are happy that she can no longer play and nap in the middle
the dregs – 24 oct 2011
We are starting to hit the “dregs” of moving. Little bits and pieces here and there. It is slower to go through the stuff, but we are not hauling as much stuff over to the condo. The top two floors are empty. The art closet is empty. The storage room is emptying. The garage is
lake eden – 23 oct 2011
Cold! Frigid! Freezing! Tent camping in the freezing weather is challenging. I wore my long johns, a turtleneck and sweats, smartwool socks, a large sweater, my down winter coat, gloves and a hat to sleep. I had my classic LLBean sleeping bag plus a fleece sweathshirt used as a blanket over my head. It was
with noah – 22 oct 2011
Chloe and her best buddy Noah hung out a bunch at LEAF this weekend. Chloe met him last year, and they became fast friends. We’ve gotten to stay at his house twice in the past year and hope to see them again a bunch this coming year!!
goats on the roof – 21 oct 2011
Again, we decided to go the “back way” to LEAF up 441. After the craziness involved in packing while living in two homes, it was nice to slow things down. We had an amazing lunch at the deli, including cookies and this strange watermelon soda.
breakfast – 20 oct 2011
Chloe seems to adjusting fairly well to her new schedule. She has to get up at 7:15 in order to get dressed, have breakfast and catch her bus. Gazoo enjoys the few morning moments that she gets to share with Chloe.
moving and downsizing is exhausting enough
But add a semi-annual release on top, and I’m ready to collapse. I’ve fallen behind on just about everything. I’m forgetting things. It isn’t good. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We are mostly moved in, just a few more pieces of IKEA furniture to assemble. We have longer-term projects
farmers’ market – 19 oct 2011
When Chloe got home from school, we headed over to the weekly farmers; market, a block away from the condo. we bought eggs, butter and some baked goods … we’ll save buying greens for next week since we are about to head out of town. It is so nice to have this market so close
tired girl – 18 oct 2011
Chloe is loving school, but getting up at 7:20 to catch the bus is taking its toll. We are going to bed earlier and getting up earlier. It is strange to have such a “schedule”, but I think it may end up being a “good thing”.
claire and camille – 17 oct 2011
With our move to Decatur, Camille and Claire no longer need “rides” to get together. Hooray! Maybe Camille will be able to start walking over to Claire’s softball games, and they’ll get to hit the Yogurt Tap on a regular basis.
gazoo – 16 oct 2011
Gazoo is starting to adjust to living in the condo. She doesn’t ask to go outside and (thankfully) uses the litter box (whew). We still find her hiding in the closet or in other strange places, but overall she knows that this is home. (I was sweeping up her hair even before she moved over
root beer fest – 15 oct 2011
Today we took a short break from moving — garage sales, hauling stuff, building stuff — to walk over to the First Annual Decatur Root Beer Festival at the Little Shop of Stories, just two blocks from the condo. We ran into the boy in Chloe’s grade who gets on the bus at the same
gazoo – 14 oct 2011
Gazoo was not expecting this. She knew something was up as the house got emptier and emptier, but this? Not in her wildest dreams. Living on the fifth floor is not ideal for a jungle kitty’s explorations. But, we her people, are thrilled that she’ll no longer sleep in the street and stay out after
home – 13 oct 2011
Chloe took the bus to school today. Camille and I worked on our work and worked on unpacking and getting our new home all arranged. Slowly but surely, we are getting there.
moving – 12 oct 2011
I drove Chloe to school and came home to find this truck parked outside the house. The move went *fast*, but we had the movers move only the big furniture and the washer/dryer. By noon, we were moved *in*. It was a crazy, crazy day, but we’re sleeping in Decatur tonight.
FAVE – 11 oct 2011
I never said the day wouldn’t come. But I didn’t expect it to come this quickly. Last night was like Christmas Eve for Chloe. She couldn’t sleep due to the excitement and anticipation. I picke up Sally so Chloe would be arriving with a good friend. Everyone in the school appeared to be happy and
unschooler – 10 oct 2011
Today was Chloe’s last day as a homeschooler — in fact, she’s been unschooling for the past couple of weeks. She’s been reading waht she wants, playing with Legos and doing other various activities. Camille and I will miss having her around, but we hope that school proves to be a great experience for her.
Mission Downsize: Day 19
Nineteen days sounds like a terribly long time, but I suppose with all the changes we’re making, it really isn’t that long at all. Only a week ago we signed the contract for the condo. In that time we’ve made three trips to IKEA, assembled a whole lot of furniture, painted the girls’ room, gotten
camille – 9 oct 2011
Today we made our annual trip to the corn maze in North Georgia (well, actually, TN). Phil, Barbara, Rob, Camille, Chloe and I first headed to Arts in the Park in Blue Ridge, where we had delicious crepes for lunch. We then drove up along the Occoee to Benton, TN, where we went to The
school supplies – 8 oct 2011
Chloe is beyond excited about starting school. Tuesday morning just cannot come fast enough for her. I hope that she does love it, and it is a good fit for her. I’d hate to see her too disappointed by this new adventure.
