fernbank christmas – 26 dec 2011
We finally, FINALLY, got to the Darwin exhibit at Fernbank yesterday. Highly recommended, but you are running out of time. Get there tomorrow!
hello my name is gwyneth and i like holiday cards.
It should no longer came as any surprise to me, but I’m once again reminded of how “unhip” I am. Everyone around me is making fun of Christmas “brag letters” saying how much they despise them as being ridiculous and how they think the letters that make fun of the sincere ones are “hysterically funny”.
dalek – 25 dec 2011
It was a very Doctor Who Christmas. We watched a few episodes as well as the Christmas Special. In addition, Chloe made lots of Doctor Who characters out of play-doh….
square – 24 dec 2011
We had a nice quiet day around town. Lunch out, way around the square in the evening. A beautiful, relaxing day.
festivus – 23 dec 2011
Festivus is a made-up holiday, but I don’t need much of an excuse to have a celebration. We aired our grievances, ate meatloaf and enjoyed our M&M covered Pepperidge Farms cake.
stormy skies – 22 dec 2011
A stormy day, complete with tornado watches. I stayed in and worked all day long.
commerce – 21 dec 2011
A rainy, dreary day. At least I managed to finish writing the holiday letter and can hopefully get the cards out in the mail before Christmas. Each year I promise to get them out earlier the next year, but it doesn’t happen. 2012 will be my year!
That “White Ham” sandwich ….
A month ago, Chloe jumped in the car for our twice weekly race from school to gymnastics. “The good news is I don’t feel sick!” Um … ok? “See, we had sack lunch in our classroom, and I had to eat a ham sandwich for lunch.” “No, no choice. That’s what they handed me.” Ever
fox theatre – 20 dec 2011
Chloe left for school at 7:45. From school, she went right to two hours of gymnastics. From the gym, we got on MARTA to get to midtown to go see The Nutcracker. A long day for a slightly sick little girl! The Nutcracker was amazing, made even more so by getting to see Tristan as
city of decatur – 19 dec 2011
I like the little “logo” for Decatur, but think that the slogan could use a little bit of tweaking : “city of homes, schools, places of worship”. Rob thinks it should be called the sudsiest city, I think.
sunset on ponce – 18 dec 2011
A to-do day. Cleaned house, bought clothes for the girls to wear to the Nutcracker (and Annie, I hope). Rested up, hoping to kick the illnesses that hae been floating around before the busy week ahead. And tried out a new restaurant on the square.
courthouse – 17 dec 2011
Today I headed out for a walk to the library and the grocery store — I am soon to be the foursquare mayor at boh places, I think. While walking, I found a “bill folio” (you know, that black faux leather folder that your restaurant bill comes in and that you place your credit card
Decatur: Bonfire on the Square
Our first “Bonfire on the Square”! The weather was slightly uncooperative – 70 degrees is just not chilly enough to merit a need for added warmth. The kids didn’t mind getting in close to roast their marshmallows. Or, sometimes, set the marshmallows on fire and then swing their flaming torches. I was pleased to see
ponce – 16 dec 2011
Today I barely did anything. I felt miserable when I got up, but around 10 I decided to shower and walk to the post office hoping that might make me feel better. Unfortunately, it made me feel so much worse. I went to bed when we got back and never really got back up.
Decatur: Expressions on the Ave
Chloe has now been attending school for two months, and tonight she had to get up in front of a “multi-purpose” room full of parents and speak two lines. She was quite nervous about this little part, but she did just great! I’m not a huge fan of chaotic gatherings such as the one tonight;
bonfire – 15 dec 2011
Despite the 70 degree temps in the day, Decatur lie a huge warming bonfire on the square last night. Marshmallows and sticks were passed out to all the kids. Parents were careful to watch that flaming wands did not set anyone’s hair on fire. A lovely evening on the square.
big tex cantina – 14 dec 2011
While our lunch was then than spectacular (Big Tex has very few vegetarian options at the moment, but Iโm hopeful that will change soon), we enjoyed our weekly Wednesday lunch out.
first methodist – 13 dec 2011
A beautiful, sunny and warm afternoon. Despite walking to the library and Kroger, I did not manage to get in 10K steps today ๐
Meeting Norton Juster
Friday night, the girls and I attended the culminating event of On the Same Page sponsored by the Little Shop of Stories, a great independent children’s bookstore just a couple of blocks from our new home. This year’s book was The Phantom Tollbooth, a book I hadn’t heard of until after Camille was born, but
decatur – 12 dec 2011
We have been walking, walking, walking. It is SO nice to be able to walk to get pretty much everything we need. Today I walked to get keys made, get money out, get a haircut, buy presents and get more groceries….
