light up blue ridge
For the past few years, it has been our custom to headed down to Blue Ridge on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. And over the years it has grown and grown in size. My mom plays in the “Tuba Christmas” then we watch the Christmas parade and then we wander around. This year, there was even
instagram: brirthday snacks
I read in the AJC that today is a holiday in Georgia for Gen Robert E Lee. Since he and I share a birthday, it must be my birthday too! Though I didn’t get the brownies I requested, I did get a little birthday snack complete with candles and song!
photo friday: roadtrip
A couple weeks ago at Fernbank Science Center, I was asked to sign a pledge to not text and drive “For the safety of the kids”… No, I will not sign it. I find the current laws to be somewhat ridiculous. I understand the need to convince teens to focus on DRIVING. I’m all for

Thanksgiving dinner at the cabin will be on the table any minute now!!
too much instagramming
I’m a little disappointed in myself as I look back on my photos from the past year. While I’ve taken a photo a day as I had challenged myself (I think I missed one day so far), I’ve come to rely on my iPhone and instagram far too much. I’ve allowed myself to become very

While geocaching, Chloe leaned on this rock with a plaque on it and tipped it over!
holiday cards coming soon
Such a stressful one for me. I love the decorations, the special food, the lights… But I stress. So terribly that I lose sight of what it means to me and my family. This year, I’ve decided that there will be no “annual update” from us. Despite all the snark and ugliness, I *LIKE* getting

We headed to Mercier Orchards today to pick up some apples …
what’s for dinner?
I’ve never been shy about it. I don’t enjoy the food part of Thanksgiving very much. I don’t like the traditional foods – I don’t eat turkey. Cranberry sauce is not a “fruit” that I care to eat. Stuffing, even if vegetarian, is something I just don’t like. I eat the mashed potatoes and not

This afternoon the girls sat down to study some math. Camille worked on proofs for geometry; Chloe worked on crunching census numbers….
thought it would get easier
When I decided to participate NaBloPoMo this month, I had great hopes for my blog. I decided that like with many other things, if I made myself sit down and add something to my little blog everyday that with practice it would get easier. Unfortunately, I don’t seem to have hit my stride yet. And
instagram: my girls
My girls. They annoy each other. So different. But they are sisters and take care of each other. Such is family.
nostalgic projects
Lately, I’ve been working on projects that have brought on a bout of nostalgia. I’m creating photo album after album via Shutterfly. I’ve decided that with all these photos that I take, it is time to make some nice albums! So far, I’ve made three Out West: Summer 2011, Butera Family:2011 and Turkey: Summer 2010.
instagram: jumpy pillow
The corn maze advertised a “Jumping pillow”. Would the pillow jump in front of our eyes? Alas, no. But it was great for the girls to jump on … Chloe the gymnast had a blast flipping and jumping and being Chloe….
principled is she
I admit, I haven’t looked into what IB (International Baccalaureate) means in terms of schooling despite the fact that Chloe’s school is an IB School. I have a vague notion that it is generally a good thing overall, but that also makes us go praise our kids more than I feel is necessary. This week,

Gazoo loves her dishwasher … the steam vent, the heat of the counter, the noise or some combination? No idea. But if it is running, she’s right there.
photo friday: tybee island light station
While we were Tybee Island back in September, our campground was just up the street from the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum. On Saturday morning, we walked over to explore. Unfortunately, when we got there, we were informed that no bags are allowed in. Not wanting to walk all the way back to the
instagram: lost toy
As I rode the elevator this evening, I noticed this lost toy. Poor baby is sure to be missing it. It was gone when I got back home, so I’m hoping that the right puppy got it back!
sorting and packing
This evening I spent a couple hours sorting and packing. Thankfully, not more downsizing work… Down at the fire station, my Fire CAPS friends and I were greeted with lawn bags filled with food donations from the Decatur schools. Our job was to sort out the “bad stuff” and box up all the good stuff.
instagram: sunrise in decatur
There was a lovely pink sky at sunrise this morning. While I’m not thrilled with getting up at 5:30 and having to get Chloe up and fed and ready for school, I do enjoy seeing the sky move from dark to light.
