photo friday: corn maze
Each fall, we try to make sure to have a “fall outing” to a pumpkin farm, apple picking or a corn maze. As Thanksgiving approached and we had not yet gone on our annual outing, I feared that maybe we had put it off too long. But luckily, we found a corn maze near the

Tonight was my first Police CAPS assignment … patrolling the square during the bonfire and then afterwards for “Terrific Thursday”. Fun!
our next step in free-range kids
One of the goals/reasons for moving to Decatur was to give the girls more opportunities to be able to get places and do things on their own. Camille usually walks or walks home from homeschool classes (since it is two miles away, I usually drive her one way or the other). She goes to the
instagram: trouble
We had a terrible, no-good, awful day with Phelix today. He had FOUR accidents. He was too rough with Chloe. He would run away from me whenever I went to put the leash on him. I found myself seriously questioning getting a dog. How do people manage?? I sure hope that the training will help
it will get easier, right?
Phelix was an absolute disaster today. He wouldn’t let me “catch” him to put his leash on. Once he does have a leash on, he’s either jumping to grab it or pulling so hard on it that he chokes. He had FOUR accidents, most just after coming in from a walk. His “bites”, that we’ve

Phelix did pretty well today. We signed him up for dog training in hopes that we can help him learn to and not to do a number of different things in order to make it a little easier for us to all live together.
holiday cards DONE
As I wrote a week or two ago, this year, I’m not writing the letter. I’ve done it for a number of years now. I do it because I so love reading letters from other families. More interesting than a store bought card or a photo card, at least for me. But this year I’m
instagram: run like what?
Noticed this painting hanging on an electrical pole as Phelix and I walked over to greet Chloe’s bus …. Wonder what it means?
waterdog ?
Yesterday while we were hiking at Sweetwater Creek Park, we decided to test out how Phelix would respond to moving water. He had a blast rock scrambling and getting his little paws wet and begged for more…
instagram: the mill
The mill at Sweetwater Creek State Park is lovely! Burned down in the Civil War, it is still an amazing landwark. I’d love to be bale to capture it in photo or paint or pencil!
phelix goes hiking
This morning, after breakfast (and Phelix’s nap), we loaded up in the car and headed out to Sweetwater Creek State Park for a hike with the puppy. We first headed down to the creek and did some rock scrambling. Phelix *loved* the water. The frigid water. He was ready to jump in and SWIM! A

A filthy dog turned into a clean one, just like that!!
a week of phelix
Well, I’m exhausted. And the family is in turmoil. The dog has turned our lives upside down. Chloe, the one who *really* wanted a dog, says “I didn’t know it would be so much work!!” (Maybe the girls will see – a baby may be a fashion statement these days, but they are really, really
instagram: high school tour
Today, Rob, Camille and I took a tour of the high school. While I’m not excited about the lack of individualization in the classes, Camille loved the looks of the classrooms for the electives…. we’ll see.
photo friday: austin kiddie limits
Back in October, the girls and I headed to Texas for the weekend for our annual pilgrimage to the Austin City Limits Music Festival. When we first started going, it was solely for the kids’ stage, Austin Kiddie Limits. The children’s area has grown through the years, and we still love hanging out there early

I did a double-take when I saw these hearts at 5:45 this morning while taking Phelix for his pre-dawn walk.
NaBloPoMo Done!
Only a week behind, I’ve finally managed to finish a month of posts. It seems like anything I try to do, I end up a bit behind, but, eventually I manage to complete it. I’d say that completing a 30 day project in 36 days isn’t really all that bad — especially when it is
instagram: phelix
Phelix is not a big fan of “work”. He gets the sad puppy eyes when I sit down at my work computer …. he’ll figure it out eventually, right?
getting to know you
What do you like to do? What scares you? What is a good routine? Phelix the toddler puppy is adjusting to life here. He’s figured out how to ride the elevator and always gives himself a little kiss in the mirror when the doors slide shut. He’s mostly staying away from the Christmas tree. He

Gazoo is S..L..O..W..L..Y adjusting to having a puppy in the house, but then had a setback after going to the vet today. At the moment, the puppy is on a walk, so she’s ventured out to her favorite spot on the counter. If only she’d realize HE CAN’T reach her there. She could stay there
